The Poor Mans Squad Automatic Weapon Or MOAR Fun w/A Budget Belt Fed

Greetings and Salutations!
I -just- got back from my last-minute trip from MomUnit’s place. It was a very nice trip TBH… no arguments nor any issues. Seems she’s decided that the expenses of living on a very ‘toney’ Island community ($1000 a month just in HOA fees) just isn’t worth it anymore, as she doesn’t utilize the perks of said community (horseback riding, clubs, golf, etcetc.) She used to when DeadDad was still on this side of the dirt, but time and age has made it really NOT a great idea to be OVERLY active.

So she’s decided to move closer to FedBro, into a GREAT elderly community, and chill the fuck out. This call-down for me was for me to go and retrieve various artifacts from my life/childhood and such. I’m really glad I made the effort…

It t’was a bit melancholic for me, in that I know I won’t be going back there, and there were a lot of great memories I made there. A LOT of them from even BEFORE I was married first time around. Downtown Charleston being a GREAT party spot back when I was a Junior Enlisted man back in the day…

A Three day weekend at Ft. Campbell meant “CHARLESTON!” for me… someday I have to tell you about one night that I partied with the Joint Chief of Staff’s (Army) son who graduated from the Citadel… I had NO IDEA who the kid was til later in the night I swear… anyways…

So yeah…

Now whilst I was ‘oot and aboot’…
Guess what showed up?
My LimaSix Upper.

And I debated on the ‘unboxing and build’ but I figured the majority of y’all impatient bastards would not care all that much, so here’s the pics post-assemble after I uncrated it:

Isn’t that just precious?

As you can see, I put it together pretty well. It’s got a Holosun 407 red dot on a raised mount, a MagPul PRS Lite Buttstock, Knight Industries heat guards on the rail system, as well as a MagPul Bipod. The pistol grip is a Tapco genuine SAW pistol grip that I found through a Reddit Group as Tapco has been out of business for a while, and I found a guy who had an FDE grip onhand surplus that only cost me $25. The carry handle is a generic Zon special, but serves it’s purpose.

There’s also a 100 round Nutsack for ammunition, and overall?

Well, I got a boner.
A BIG boner.
A BIG Belt Fed Boner

Bring it bitches.

As a plus? The internals?

I have a Hoffman “Trigger Kicker” in the lower that pretty much replaces an FRT (as FRTs can’t be shipped to Florida) and I dunno… EVERYONE who’s bought one, AND implanted it in a LimaSix Belt fed?

Let’s just say the outcome is insane.

So let’s do some more pictures:

It’s got a 12 point adjustable gas-block on it made by “Riflespeed”

Currently I have it set to the middle, of ‘6’ as I have no idea how it actually is going to function, and ‘6’ is the factory setting.

I’m also running an orange colored buffer spring with an H3 buffer, so recoil should be well in hand.

The red dot I got on sale… Palmetto State (curse them!) practically gave it away, and with Sezzle (curse them too!) made it easy for me to get it.

The feed tray opens from the rear.

It’s more like an M-60A1 on it’s feed and loading procedure. Meaning that the bolt lug (which powers the feed tray) HAS to be locked to the rear to ‘charge’ the weapon.

Unlike a SAW, where you can place a belt in, and crank the charging handle to the rear, and hey! That’s it! This one, since it fires from the closed bolt, does NOT have the ability to have the feed tray closed while the bolt is in the forward position:

Also, BECAUSE it fires from the closed bolt, there’s going to be a lot of heat building up… it’s something I’m going to have to watch out for, as a couple of GunToobers have already had ‘slam-fire’ issues and cookoffs with this upper due to the lack of heat dispersion.

Another thing is that the charging handle is like a Maxim, i.e. it’s reciprocating. As in the charging handle will be going apeshit whilst the weapon is engaged. I’m playing around with a couple of my brass catchers because of this, as I -do- want to be able to catch if not the brass, then the fucking links, ‘cos in a SHTF situation, resupplying links might become shall we say…

problematic?

So, so far, so good.
Sunday id the attempted “Range Day” down in Myakka.

My regular gun club would positively ‘plotz’ if I broke this thing out… Fudds doesn’t even to BEGIN to define the RSOs there.

At least at Myakka, they expect some rock and roll.
So wish me luck.
More Later

  1. Regardless of “concerns” (possible cook-offs,etc.) that is a thing of beauty I can appreciate vicariously. Especially from way up here in New Yorkistan, the land of “Her Royal Majesty” Kathy Hochul. Her latest is as the Feds make firearm ownership less restrictive she wants to implement Aussie level controls…

  2. If watching the invasion in Spain does not convince you of your need of this type of weaponry nothing will.
