      All my NCO’s at 2nd Recon , Camp Lejeune, just sat there in shock as we watched my old unit (9th Marines) evac the embassy, and lift off into the sunset. The dead, wounded and suffering of 10 yrs in VN was not lost on me as I saw the faces of my superiors who had served multiple tours in VN.
      I too was a sucker for the war brainwashing, I’m now 180′ the opposite after 9 yrs of service (USNR/USMC) and a lifetime of studying REAL history and who actually created all these wars.

7. Dad was stationed in Germany in the Army when Vietnam kicked off. He volunteered to go as an “advisor”, as that was all they were sending at that time. When asked why he wanted to go there, he was honest and said he wanted to go kill people. That earned him a trip to an Army shrink and he never got sent to Vietnam.

   The second are the ostensibly “conservative” types who have wildly enjoyed the fruits of capitalism, yet openly state their desire to spend down their entire fortunes (and some have amassed considerable wealth) even if they have to waste it on stupid shit, to make sure their children inherit nothing. One of the things that once made America great was the transfer of generational wealth, and the benefit it bestowed on the upcoming generations in the form of a solid head start at a successful life. Now, that’s mostly gone.

   These are the same sorts who half jokingly talk about how the world is going to hell, but it doesn’t matter to them, since “I’ll be dead before all that happens”. Yeah, fuck them and their selfish bullshit. But neither of those are so much attributes of a specific generation, as they are of individuals who just happen to be boomers.

   As to Vietnam, and war in general (as wageed by the US empire since the mid 2oth century), it was and is a shitty racket that enormously profited the usual suspects, and totally fucked over the usual victims, as well as those Vietnamese who foolishly chose to trust the US as an ally, only to get fucked raw by the abandonment of the mission. And we wonder why the US is now so widely despised the world over. Same with every other engagement the US has entered (and failed to deliver a tangible victory in) since then.

   And I can’t rightfully call them wars, since the civilian side of government has repeatedly fucked off on the required legal protocol of actually declaring war in every one of these misadventures, post WWII. Even WWII was a loss for the US, as it killed many good men, and gave rise to the US as an empire, and neoliberal/communist control of our politics, which has had deleterious effects on our country and culture ever since. Near as I can tell, it’s all been 100% bullshit.

   Please know that I say that not to insult those who served, and believed they were doing the right thing at the time. Some (including commenters above me) clearly recognize in hindsight that they were duped into being errand boys for the system, and that their sense of duty was preyed upon by opportunistic whores. It’s bad enough for those who came out (relatively) unscathed by the experience to have been treated with such deceit. It’s downright inexcusable for all those who were killed or permanently harmed (physically and/or psychologically) by the experience, that they were sent – whether voluntarily or not – into the meat grinder in far flung shitholes for reasons that were never properly and honestly articulated.

   And now the stage is being set for another such disaster, with “MAGA” and orange man bad in the Shite House, .MIL recruitment of willing White men apparently way up (just so they can build another force of our best remaining stock to be deployed and decimated for the goddamned bankers). Same old shit all over again.

         It also never made sense to me that the birth date range for the boomer cohort was so long, compared to other generations. And we both get squeezed on the downstream end by Millennials, who are comparatively huge in numbers, and even more dysfunctional than many of the boomers.

    1. I won’t speak for BCE, but I think a return to a patriarchal model of society, and placing tight limits on female influence, would self evidently be to our great benefit at this point. What we have now is obviously not working, and the current poltiical divide between men and women makes it clear that their priorities are entirely at odds with ours, and the way men generally want society structured is the only way that ever works.

       Giving women the level of power and influence they’ve enjoyed for a few decades now has rapidly sent us down the shitter. Virtually every major problem we have – lack of family formation, low birthdates, no effective deterrent to crime (because that would be mean, and because sympathy for nigs and other imported diversities) and a massive overload of busybody government fucntionairies at all levels.

       In short, if there is to be any decent future for humanity in the West, the current paradigm must be abandoned, and replaced with what we already know works. 14. In the mid 80s while everyone was still sore about Nam and hated the military, I went through ROTC and was commissioned in the Air Force Reserve. Was so glad that Reagan was our Commander in Chief. Grew up watching Vietnam on the tv and nightly news. Thought war and the draft was the normal way things were. Still, I volunteered to stand up against the evil Reds that many thought were our future.

    All these years later I couldn’t help but notice that since 1945 none of these 3rd world shit holes ever really threatened my freedom. Neither did the Mexicans in the 1840s or the Spaniards in the late 19th Century.     1. I went to a Crystal Method concert with the wife. At one point the laser visual effects turned in to a series of short bursts over our heads.
       It looked like incoming tracers and I had a panic attack.
       There was a short platform next to me, it was all I could do to not dive behind it for cover.
       Instead I closed my eyes and tried to get my breathing under control. My wife could feel me trembling next to her and rubbed my arm. She said something but I couldn’t hear it. I wasn’t all there.

          Suck times to say the least.
          I heard later that the incident report written up made one of the first mentions of the warnings that are now standard at the parks regarding fireworks and PTSD.

    There are actually two generations of boomers. The first, born in the mid 40’s (my parents) – and mine, born in the 60’s. For all intents and purposes I got the same ride Gen X did. Most of my friends did too.

    I’d save my ire for the elderly boomer generation. I’ve almost shot my mother several times. That old cunt will run her mouth at how stupid and lazy the kids are why they deserve nothing. I finally had enough of her shit and told her to shut her gob with that shit, or I’d do it for her and leave. She’s old, stupid and mean and she can’t help it at her age… but I grew up listening to it too.

24. I don’t hate the Boomers. But I’ve known since I was young that one thing was for sure, they don’t like me. If there ever was a generation that most resembled plantation owners it’s them. They have personally stolen from me (wages for work included), black-balled me for quitting their employment, never started me at a wage commiserate with my experience (always minimum wage to start), downright hostile to veterans, taxed the crap out of me in my prime working years (sorry we don’t allow overtime), denied any kind of employment because you occasionally and on your own time smoke some pot (they really love to piss-test people) and on and on and on. In my mid 30’s I went to work for myself so I could keep my distance. No I don’t hate them but I doubt I could ever call one a friend and I will never help them with anything.

25. Why all the hate for boomers? I am 71 years old and that makes me a boomer. I worked as an aircraft mechanic for 40 years. Raised 2 daughters alone and saved my money and bought a home in the mountains when i retired at 66. The first new car i ever bought was 3 years ago. I live in Montana and everyone here in northern MT are working people and many are what you call boomers. Please explain to me what i have taken from anyone? Where is all this hate comeing from?
