Been a while, but as they say, been BUSY-BUSY. I mean what else can I be with the Dooney and -trying- to maintain this place. Add on some of the more recent adventures and whatnot and I’m to-the-bone tired.
Now first, the Dooney update.
New measurements: 32.5 inches long. 29.8 pounds.
99th Percentile across the board. The A.I. I plugged into said he’s currently the size of a 2.5-3 year old. Pssssh… I already knew this as that’s the clothing we’ve had to buy. 2T bottoms and 3T tops… sheesh…
He -is- a wee bit of a chonkyboi, but as he get more mobile, he’ll lose the fat.
He’s rolling and sitting up quite well, but hasn’t gotten the hang of crawling yet. Personally, I think he’s going to bypass it and go straight to walking as he loves to just stand up, leaning against the hassock, and learning how to move his lil (not so much!) feet trying to figure out this ‘walking thing’… My understanding is huuuuge kids often bypass crawling and go right into walking…
He’s also discovered hamburger (ground beef) and seems to have quite a taste for it. I’m thinking that idea of buying another deep freeze and stocking it with 1/2 a cow might actually need to happen.
At this rate when he’s 7, he’s going to ask for the keys to the car ‘cos he’s got a date…

Other adventures. Cowboy needed some assistance out on his horse ranch. Seems his head Farmhand saw some flashlights and heard possible ATVs out in the back woods of his A.O.
Seeing that recently we’ve had turd-world invaders rustle and butcher!!! some horses here recently, I figured it’s a good idea for us to recon the back 40 as he wanted. So we settled on Saturday afternoon to do so…
The farm is 8 acres of pure-dee Panama Level Jungle School growth, with a few deer trails and signs of LARGE carnivore activity, via the entire deer skeleton (relatively fresh) we found. Couldn’t have been more than 6 months old as there was still some minor cartilage on the bones, and they were in no way bleached. So he’s either got a Bobcat out there (probable) OR less probable, a Florida Puma/Panther. I’ve personally seen a panther out where I used to work on some federally protected wetlands (4000+ acres) and that was enough to know you don’t want to fuck with a panther…
Nevermind potential ‘hostiles’ like turd-world rustlers or homeless trespassers.
Hence us rolling out with a 4 man fire-team with 2x M-4s, one 12 gauge, and Cowboy rolling with his AK. We covered about a half-mile out, and a half mile back by my pace-count app.
I almost fuggin died I swear.
118 degree heat index, and I was in full uniform as the ONLY long sleeves and pants I own ARE my old uniforms. I mean I have ‘business casual’, but I’m not about to hump the Jungle in chinos and a Brooks Brothers shirt right? I only had only(thankfully) ONE Tick, and the bastard was on the back of my hand. As soon as it bit, I felt it, grabbed it off before it could ‘dig in’ and got rid of it.
I’ll be honest. I need to work on humping under a combat load. It’s been since Afghanistan since I have, and it shows. I mean I -am- a fatboi… not going to deny it. I like my groceries. I can hump a ruck on even terrain, but Jungle? Notsomucho. And when I say ‘jungle’, I fucking mean it. We needed Machetes to break trail at some of the points we investigated. THICC bush. The “Bad Bush like back in the Poontang Valley in ’69” as the old joke went…
At least I didn’t need to be carried out, but man, for a minute, it was a near thing.
Once we got back, and did the AAR, and then, well since Cowboy’s ranch -is- my test range, and it was still a nice day out, it was time to bust out “Ole Painless”

Now unfortunately, the codec for the audio was fucked up. Cowboy shared it with me after videoing on an iPhone, and shared it thru my messenger, at which point the codec went bad? No idea. I’m not a code monkey.
If you could (or can, not sure if the audio is working or not) hear it, I fired 3-4 round bursts. The Hoffman Tactical Trigger Kicker worked as advertised, and the upper experience zero misfeeds nor any jams. It ran like a top.
My only bitch is that despite a ton of loctite, the Holosun vibrated loose. Not sure what the solution is going to be for THAT particular issue. A better mount? Stronker loctite? Thoughs in the comments if you will. Otherwise?

On the video — No worky for me in Firefox. Message: “No video with supported format and MME type found”. Possibly due to add blocker extensions I have. Video played in Edge, but no sound and sound icon greyed out.
Question: What’s your best guess at to rpm?
Loose mount — Any chance heat was an issue? My guess would be probably not with that round count. Yeah, I would try stronger Loctite next, or maybe figure out how to stake the screws.
Humping the jungle — This may may hit a nerve, so be it. You are pushing the limit doing that in your current state. You blow a gasket, and it could be lights out for good. Too many depend on you for you to take that risk. Stay healthy, stay fit. ‘Nuf said.
Holsun mount…. The screws look like cap screws with a internal hex head. If not, a run to any hardware store should provide a couple in the same length, diameter & thread pitch. Pop the mount screws out and CAREFULLY use a #60 (.040) bit to drill through the screw head. A length of .025 safety wire between the screw heads wrapped so if one loosens the other pulls to tighten will hold it. Run it around the front of the sight & brush a dab of flat black on the wire to hide it. https://navyaviation.tpub.com/14014/css/Safety-Wiring-Methods-116.htm Use figure 1 or 5 as an example.
On the Holosun… get an oversize screw that has about a 1/4 inch extending out the other side of the hole, and either get one pre drilled, or carefully drill a hole in the exposed part of the end of the screw. Then run a die over the threads to clean it up, thread it in and use a small cotter pin to hold it. Then add a bit of paint over the pin to hide it, smooth sharp edges, and lock it in place.
I sent you a text with a small cotter pin assortment at the ‘zon, I keep one in my tool stuff just for generic use. (never know when you need to replace one you broke taking out, or lost some-damn-how)

There are so many variations by number/color, from the purple 22(n) low strength, blue 24(n) medium strength, through the 26(n) red high strength, to the 27(n) green high(er) strength.

Yes being in shape is a good thing. We have more heat and humidity than I like but that will pass soon.

Don’t skip the crawling. Even delay/discourage walking early. Crawling, and the associated act of the neck holding the head up, is necessary to strengthen the neck, shoulder, back muscles that will set the stage for posture, balance, hand-eye coordination.
It’s also necessary for developing cognitive skills like spatial awareness etc..
Some say it helps develop a stronger voice in the long run because everything involved in speaking is strengthened by crawling.

Been losing weight and getting back in shape. 6’3″ and 332 was too much for me. I want to be around to see my grandkids grow up. Got on the Tirzepatide. That shit works! It controls appetite among many other benefits like controlling inflammation and a few other things. Cheating? If that’s what it takes, I’ll cheat like a mf’r to get where I need to be – back to 200 before I start building muscle again (former bodybuilder). After 15 weeks, I’m down 38 lbs – average 1-3 lbs per week. Don’t want to rush it. You HAVE to keep your caloric intake up, especially your protein. It’s a miracle drug, but it isn’t a fat burning drug. It just controls how hungry you get. You can starve yourself on it, but that’s not the intention. You use it to build your good habits so you can eventually come off it, or reduce the dosage to a maintenance level. It is available on the grey market, if you are discerning.
However; I did blow a gasket the other day and wound up in the hospital with a severe bloody nose after pushing my last set of kettlebell swings too hard. Combined with high BP, doc said it was the perfect storm, so to speak. I haven’t had a bloody nose since I was in my early 20s when a drunk suckerpunched me. My BP was around 220/200. Got admitted and got it down to 120/80 range before they let me go home. I will tell you, a Rhino Rocket in the nostril is freakin painful, basically an inflatable tampon that can only be removed by a doctor. It worked on the bloody nose (not talking a typical nose bleed – it was a gusher, and even came around through the other nostril when I tried to pinch it off, then ran down the back of my throat. Doc told me to take a week off, but don’t stop working out altogether. You can get basically a full body workout with a kettlebell in 10-15 minutes, which you can do in your living room or outside in the grass.
Been eyeballing one of those trigger kickers for my M16A1 clone – just to get as much authenticity as I can from it. Glad they work as advertised. You know the FRT makers are shitting bricks over it, as it comes in at just over $50/shipped. As for your Holosun, I saw it suggested you wire it down like M60 gas systems are. I still have my lacing pliers and a roll of stainless lacing wire. Use longer bolts, drill holes through them, then run wire through after torquing down.
Of course, you’ll then get to find out just what that Holosun is made of. You may wind up having to go with a Trijicon ACOG – we know those are combat tested and proven.
