Greetings and Salutations!
Yannow, when you look into the abyss…

….and you realize
“I ain’t got enough time for this shit!!!”
(h/t CA and WiscoDave)
Whelp…
After a few hours of contemplation, I’ve decided to say “Fuck it” and do what I do best.
Bail.
Depart my Area of Operations for ‘parts unexplored’
See… I’ve ‘done’ ALL of the EU with the exception of a few locations… Portugal, Hungary… a couple or so of the former Warsaw Pact places, primarily b/c it either was STILL behind the wall (1984 when I lived alllll over Europe as a kid for a year and East/West Germany was still 2x different countries) OR just not good enough to visit long-term, the former Yugoslavia case in point as they were shooting at each other for quite a spell
What I haven’t done is a LOT of US Travel
I’ve done the majority of Texas while stationed there, Tennessee and Kentucky, having lived there AND been stationed there, and ALL of New England having been raised there… I’ve also done a fair bit of Northern Cali, and a two week trip to DisneyLAND that MomUnit actually won in a contest no shit… like 8?-9? days in Disney, all expenses paid when I was 17.
The current female, potential X#2 and I did quite a bit of exploring In Georgia, and South Carolina where MomUnit currently resides, as well as our former bolt-hole in North Carolina… That’d being said, there’s some places I WANT to go…
And this weekend?
Well Fuck It All.
It’s payday.
Road Trip to New Orleans.
Only a 9 hour ride.
Off season, the hotel at the Airport is only $100 a night and gas? I can do this on the cheap.
Do a Riverboat ride, maybe hit the Haunted Ghost tour ‘stuff’
Shit like that.
Chase Random Strange
Maybe get in a Gunfight in the French Quarter with some retarded ‘groids…
That being said, I will be doing The French Quarter during daylight and yes, I will be heeled as they’re a Constitutional Carry State… Leave the vehicle at the Airport, and either Uber or take one of the French Quarter Hotel busses to the French Quarter right?
Why the fuck not?
Pictures to follow, and we’ll see how it goes.
Since deciding to ditch the bullshit, I’m much more positive.
So More Later
Big Country

Heh
Just got back from N’Awleans Tuesday night.
4 day trip for a conference. Still nice and warm there. Didn’t have the time to get out much. Place sprawls more than I expected. Saturday evening Mass at the church across the street from the hotel – handsome outside, spectacular inside. One planned trip was to the jazz museum. Ok but skipppable.
The WW2 museum is supposed to be very good. I’d like to go back with nothing on the agenda and poke around.
Have a great time!
Make time for the WWII museum. Been there 3 times and would go again tomorrow if presented w the opportunity.
pharmacist?
If you want a good local place relatively in the quarter to grab a bite….check out Coop’s Place on Decatur St. It’s always been good for me, and by trusted recon, it still is good food (my sister has lived there for 20+ years). The rabbit & sausage jambalaya is fuckin’ killer. Enjoy yourself.
Laissez les bons temps rouler! 🎉
Also you got smooth sailing along I-10, both AL (sweet home!!) and MS are constitutional carry as well.
Also check US 90 around Mobile as an alternate route. You gotta worry about the I-10 bridge construction/repair over the lake going into NOLA. Just sayin’.
Good call. Road trips up here usually involve chasing big fish or big furry critters. Not a fan of Los Anchorage and anywhere else requires a passport to get through Canuckistan or 4 hours on a jet minimum.
If you did nothing but sample the incredible cuisine, it would be a trip worthwhile. Start the day with chicory coffee and beignets, a must, and from there are so many great food places you can’t go wrong.
Chat up the locals for all the best current foodie offerings and avoid the touristy shit.
Burn some calories during the day dude I usually gain a good 5 lbs a week when I visit.
It’s amazing how much free time and money you have when you cut loose the anchor (to mix metaphors).
Enjoy yourself. Stay frosty. See ya later.
Road trip!
Epic!
“ The current female, potential X#2 ”
You didn’t go back, did you???
No man… I’m just being politer per advice of the Shyster
WHEW
BCE,
To quote Dr. Orion Taraban (YouTube, very based men-oriented therapist 10/10 recommend): “Hire slow, fire fast”.
I have learned from my own lengthy and absurd divorce that my wimmin chooser needs recalibration. Be well and enjoy the ride!
A good place to stop for a drink is the Columns Hotel, on St Charles St in the Garden District. 1836 big house, with a truly spectacular carved wood bar, 22 ft ceilings, and when I was last there, a very good, though expensive dining room.
The Maple Leaf was a very good local Jazz bar. Take a cab.
John in Indy
Watch out for dudes look like a lady on Bourbon Street!
Enjoy your trip.
Wow BCE, have a great time !
New Orleans is fun and cool, food great and pretty safe in tourist areas.
Outside of them not so much.
My advice is do as much as you can when you can.
Covid almost killed me and damaged my ticker.
I now can’t do a lot of things I used to and can’t travel like I used to.
Your health can change for the worst in a day, so never take your health for granted.
So, travel, drink the whiskey, wine and dine and bed the pretty women and enjoy yourself.
You’ve lived much of your life for others and that’s admirable but you are way overdue for some me time.
Have a blast !!
Hey man… be sure and stop to wave at the streamin webcam when you do the quarter… Bourbon@St Peter, just above the cat’s meow balcony.
Have a large time
Just got off solo cross-country FL-CA-FL.
Caught some sunsets and sunrises that I’ll remember on my last breath.
Some nice folks along the way as well.
There’s a reason (besides she being SMOKING HOT) I have this 50+ yr tune in heavy rotation (tho the studio version is better on the ears):

You’ll be able to hit the Buc-ee’s in Mississippi and the new one in Alabama outside Pensacola.
Been to Nawlins a few times, but only day trips. When the splib comes up and bets you he can tell you where you got your shoes, the answer is – you got them on your feet! While carrying, watch yourself for pickpockets. Don’t let anyone get close to you.
My little sister and brother-in-law went on the steamboat earlier this year. They had to go through a security check to board. The guy looked in her purse, and, as she related it, saw her Second Amendment, closed her purse and told her she was good.
I don’t recommend the food at the Louis Armstrong bar. I had high expectations that were sadly dashed by mediocre tasting food I could have gotten from a box and a can.
$100 a night for a hotel? A few weeks ago I went to Victoria for a 50-year (WTF???!!!) college reunion and the best rate I could find was $270. Even with the exchange rate of 1.4, that’s twice what you’ll be paying. (This country up here is sooooo screwed…)
Have a blast!
Go to the museum of the Confederacy. It’s across the street from the WW2 museum.
Worth it.
Well, that was a shit of whiplash, considering the previous post. Good travels, BC. Since you’re packing, you might take an ivory handled revolver, like a New Orleans pimp (to quote Patton, as portrayed by George C. Scott, at any rate).
Uh, make that “a bit of whiplash”. Looks like my autocorrect knows me a little too well…
Patton said the pimp had a pearl handled revolver, his was ivory
I stand corrected, been a bit since I watched the movie.
Know that the airline schedules can go Total Fuckwit these days. Last week had several airports running hours behind (first blamed weather despite it being a perfect day, then blamed computer program, but it was actually not enough staff showing up). I know because my wife was stuck in Dallas/FW fuming for 2+hours. Im absolutely certain it was the fault of the Boomers.
Plan accordingly. Have fun.
Dude you should have a derringer on you walking the Quarter — you know like a proper riverboat gambler.
I can do that… I have a Bond 2-shot .357 Derringer actually! Good Idea that!
Be advised that despite Louisiana having Constitutional carry, a business can still post a sign denying customers that right on their premises. Don’t know if that has changed since 2018 or not but it was the case when I was there at the time.
If you decide to further explore the FUSA I highly recommend that you do not venture into New Mexico (the land of entrapment). It sucks. I have been stuck here for 24 years.
Sigh.
Some pretty scenery but most definitely socialist country.
And Freaks…i lived in Madrid/Cerrillos for a while.
Lots of freaks and fun.
Rich Kalifornia hippies have squeezed out the poor hippies from Madrid/Cerillos. The vibe has changed – feels more commercial now than it used to. Not as wild as it was.
Been in NM for 25 yrs, myself. It’s a beautiful state if you get 10 miles one way or the other from the interstates. It’s like they built the highway system through the most desolate parts. Yeah, the socialism sucks, but the laws, regulations, mandates, etc. are more like suggestions than anything else. Once you realize that, life gets easier – except for taxes and the stupid, uneducated population who graduated public schools.
