Greetings!
Sorry for the paucity of poasting. It’s been busy around Ye Olde Casa De El Grande Campesino. Haven’t had fuck-all time to do any real poly-ticks anal-lysis.

Been trying to bust out 10 hour days at Glorious People’s Tractor Factory #187. I like either getting a full day worth of overtime, or if I need it, taking a day off with pay so to speak.

Also, Been working on the Prick 77.

Took it completely apart, and did the ‘basic Dash 20 Inspection’. When I ‘cracked the shell’ and pulled the ‘guts’ out of it to inspect it to make sure all the modules were in it, the interior was fucking pristine. Like as if this thing had never been opened/serviced since it was made!!!

I also got a battery pack that takes “D” Cells that powers it, and wow… I gotta say it works! I mean at least it makes static… I have to do a IRL transmit/receive test shortly. The -only- thing that was ‘broken’ was the little light that illuminates the dial when you put it on the “lite” setting. The bulb was blown, but I got a $5 replacement on the ‘Zon, which works perfectly. I mean, hell… it turns on, has static… I already had in my possession a mike and antenna rig that I use on my Falcon II.

I mean that’s one of the bonuses of being overseas soooo long I scrounged a PILE of ‘crap’ that I eventually ended up using. From NVG mounts and Rhino horns to fucking antennas and shit… even the Medical side I have enough bandages to mummify a fucking platoon…

The next step is to bust out the Falcon… according to all things I read online, they’re both compatible as long as I turn off the ‘scramble/secure’ on the Hand-Held. And then try the Baofengs. Sapper bough like a ton of them on Prime Day… I think he got like a 8-10 pack of them for short cash. I mean, Granted, limited range, easily trackable, but ultimately disposable.

In fact now we have so much Commo Gear, the quarterly ‘battery service day’ is going to be instead of a single day, it’s going to be more like a full fucking weekend. I mean now I literally have an entire .50cal Ammo Can that’s stuffed with the rechargables. The commo gear itself is in a 40mm Ammo Can. Those are some big bastards and just my shit that I’ve ‘allocated/reacquired/scrounged/bought’ over the years has it filled to the brim.

Here’s hoping a CME/EMP the shit doesn’t get fried.

And yes, I know it should be/needs to be grounded but that’s hard in the middle of the living room or as Gretchen calls it “The War Museum.” Can’t zigzactly jab a grounding rod into the concrete floor Aye?

  1. Couldn’t you just make a fake 110V outlet plug? Plastic for the two blades and metal for the grounding plug and use that for ground?

    1. dont even need to do that, just a simple plug with ground pin and only connect the ground pin.

      1. A little more to it than that. a standard 14 or 12 gauge ground lug is not large enough to carry a CME/EMP static discharge. You would need at least a 6 or even better a 4 gauge to make a difference, going to a 2 or 1 or even ought (0) gauge would be primo, but difficult to bend and snake through a house to a ground rod that is buried vertically 8 to 12 feet depending on soil type and underlying rock.

      2. And I wonder if any cme emp charge could would jump from live to ground since their adjacent as they route through house…

    The lesson to be learned here is that this man, and all those like him, fought for nothing.   7. I’m trying to remember if it was Germany or stateside…..but in the analog b’cast pre-cable pre-satellite TV days, we were able to pick up TV FM audio on the RT-524 & RT-246. The PRC-77 covers the same frequency range (30-75.95 MHz).
    Look up your local b’cast TV channels, then research the FM audio part of the station signal.

    1. Unfortunately all parts of a TV signal are now digital due to the amount of $$$ paid to the FCC by equipment mfgs to mandate the change (both for TV and for Public Safety radios). Said mfg’s then got paid $$$*100K to replace all of the analog stuff.
      Shorter range, poorer audio quality (especially if the digital is also encrypted), and the signal is either there or not there…unlike audio where a trained operator can dig the voices out of the background dirt when necessary.
      Even HAM radio, once a bastion of “we don’t need any infrastructure” is being polluted by “has to have an Internet connection to reach more than 10ft” and “has to have a computer to enter any frequencies”.

  9. Short-short version…. Twenty-five years ago, I had the opportunity to informally interview some WW2 vets and ask if what they saw around them bore any relation to the things they had been told they were fighting for (I had just seen Saving Private Ryan, and it got me thinking…).
    To a man, they answered in the negative.
    By this measure, and I continue to believe it was accurate then, there was writing on the wall to be read by those who could. It is only in the last few years, that it has become legible for anyone to see.

  10. Grounding for EMP is misunderstood by most people. They read the EE literature on it, and assume you need tons of grounding without realizing that this is for devices that have penetrations for power and antennas so they can be used in the extreme environment. You are not going to be trying that. You want a box that stays closed. Skin effect does the whole job there, no ground needed. In fact, a ground might end up detrimental (prob not, but its another conductor.)
    Its like over pressure on a bunker. Yes, you need blast valves on it — if you are using an air handler. If you just want to bury shit against over pressure that doesn’t need to breathe, you don’t put ANY penetrations in the bunker.

    1. adding to this, line the entire box/vessel/container with packaging cardboard (including the lid) to isolate the contents from making contact.

    However, I suspect that SOP is several EMP strikes over an irregular timeframe to get “saved” electronics.

    I figure if your allies are far enough away that a whistle code or runner isn’t going to work, just how well can they arrive to help you in a serious situation. The pickup truck of buddies from 10 miles away is apt to be in an ambush if they are reasonably competent.

    I have some comms for listening but between my lack of understanding South American gang language-code and Chinese what’s the advantage?

There is another message that Eisenhower wrote out as a contingency late in the evening of June 5, 1944 that never needed to be sent: “Our landings in the Cherbourg-Havre area have failed to gain a satisfactory foothold and I have withdrawn the troops. My decision to attack at this time and place was based upon the best information available. The troops, the air and the Navy did all that Bravery and devotion to duty could do. If any blame or fault attaches to the attempt it is mine alone.” Not many high officers now would take responsibility so head on and squarely.

    1. If we had an answer for why such pernicious pathologies are extant in the minds of so many White people, and had a way to successfully counteract those innate tendencies, nearly all our problems would be solved.

      Regrettably, the greatest mind the world has known – that of the White Western European Man – which created all the great art, science and architecture, which invented and built all of the marvels of the modern world, is afflicted with a nearly fatal bug in its base firmware.

  14. If you do decide to put in a ground rod in the middle of the slab, use a hammer drill. Drive the rod, then use a bit of welding cable for the grounding conductor. Might be able to score a used piece from a welding shop. It doesn’t matter if the jacket is cracked or missing in places. It is quite flexible. Just be sure you know where all the services are under / in the slab.
