I can still see the face of MSgt. Jimmy Junior 3640 FMS Laredo AFB for whom I had the honor to serve as Summary Court Officer after his death in an aircraft crash in 1968. He was a great NCO of Korean vintage
When I get to heaven, I will not be able to explain to my fallen comrades, in every war the US has fought in, why we fell to such depths despite their sacrifices. I suppose it is the way of all flesh. We are often led by the incompetent, to fight for the unattainable, and die for the unworthy. Either because we were stupid, or tricked into it by some rich asshole. I will always remember Napoleons quip: A soldiers life, is a life of glory, but a dog would not lead it. Always ready.

My Uncle Roger was killed in the Battle Of The Bulge.
He sent this letter to my mom shortly before being transferred to Europe.
I found this when cleaning out my parents’ things after they died.
It seems apropriate. The world has changed a great deal since then.
What would Uncle Roger say if he saw the world today?
