So… Back to the P320 Firestorm.
Wyoming Gun Project, the gun who blew open a WHOLE shitpot of worms on Sig by getting his P320 to do 5 AD/ND’s in a row?
Well, he had an update, and man, it’s a good one.
And because of it I -think- I figured out the MAIN PROBLEM that’s causing these issues. HE doesn’t implicity state it, but I will and with my own conclusions.
And yeah, fixing it would entail a metric fuckton of money on Sig’s behalf to remedy it, so I’ll leave it to you guys to tell me what you think of MY findings.

As a minor league gunsmith of some ill-repute, let me tell you a few things upfront IF you are unaware. WHEN you buy a P320, you’re actually buying the trigger assembly, not the entire weapon.
Yep.
The Sig P320 was designed as a modular handgun system.
Meaning the serialized part is the trigger assembly as seen here:
THAT is actually the part you fill your 4473 out for.
The Slide and Plastic Handgrip shell?
Nope.
See, the idea in theory is great.
Make a trigger assembly (or FCU/Fire Control Unit as Sig calls it) that can be ‘dropped in’ to various sized pistol shell(s) and slide combinations. From a full frame, to a ‘carry’ frame, or a compact, the idea is that you swap out the FCU and slap it into whichever form you want. If you want a full sized Sig? They have the various sized ‘grip module(s)’ as they call them:

Until they went ‘cheap’ on it.

First off, here’s another angle shot of the FCU with an added custom piece offered by Apex:
Apex makes an aftermarket “Trigger Bar” to attempt to alleviate the P320’s propensity to AD/ND. No idea if it works, but good on them for at least trying to come up with a solution…
The reason I use this as a pic?
Well it shows the construction of the FCU’s main body.
Namely the stamped metal shell that the whole weapons functionality is based on.
WGP (shortened for brevity) points out a few things that made my brain itch. ONE major thing that stood out was when he showed the obvious looseness of the slide versus the grip module. I screencapped a pic:
He wiggles and jiggles that fucker around more than a fat chick trying like Hell to squirm herself into skinny-jeans…
And you can SEE the OBVIOUS bend where the FCU is, well bent to create the rails that hold the slide onto the Grip Module.
As an contrast, he took his Tisas $200 special (I actually think he said it was like $189) and showed the tolerances on THAT particular pistol:

Add on he ALSO points out that the free ‘upgrade’ that Sig did waaay back when this particular shitshow started? Well they upgraded (for free) the sear:
He righteously so points out that DESPITE having a ‘secondary safety catch’ added on the new sear, it doesn’t seem to fucking work. Without having one in front of me to test, I think that it’s not tall enough to catch the hook on the firing pin.
I had a similar problem when building a 80% Glock Wannabe. I had to shave the firing pin down to get it to fit, and I accidentally took too much off of the hook. First time I fired it, it went no shit full auto, which scared the ever living shit out of me AND Cowboy who’s place I do my test fires at, and well… yeah… I ordered and put in a new firing pin ASAP!
Magdumps are cool, but not like that…

I realized (as I don’t nor will ever have one) that those shitty probably cheap steel tabs? Yeeeeeah… FIRST: They’re what hold the slide on. That’s it. Those are THE ONLY SLIDE RETENTION THE SLIDE HAS!!! NO extra plastic on the lower grip module, which to me seems counter-intuitive. Even my Poly80 has metal reinforced slide rails. SECOND: Those tabs?
Well as seen in the video? They get beat to shit and are subject to wear, which in turn worsens the looseness of the slide.
WGP point out ALL the wear on this thing… Like the sear catch:
..and he also points out that the secondary sear catch? Well is shows the marks of the firing pin hook where it’s gone OVER the secondary sear catch, but it hasn’t as far as I can tell ever caught the fucking hook during an ND/AD.
So
To sum up MY findings:
Between the slop/looseness of the slide, excessive wear on a cheap assed ‘FCU Bucket’ so to speak, wear on the primary sear, and a failure of the secondary sear to do its job? I mean the ‘slop’ alone is a major ‘fail’, especially in light of the firing pin hook being reliant on a tight match between the slide, and the lower FCU to keep from firing. That much slop as WGP shows? A recipe for disaster. This’s ALL on Sig and a lack of willingness to realize and approach the problem from a new POV IMO.
As stated, its a shitshow.
The ONE thing I can think of off the top of my head is Sig would need to switch from a STAMPED Metal FCU to a MILLED FCU.
And that my frens would cost money

And under Sig’s current Leadershit?
Methinks Mr. Cohen isn’t about to step off that pillar he’s climbed up on, or the pillar he -thinks- he’s standing on… when in reality? It’s a deep hole, and only getting deeper by the day. I mean suing police departments that don’t want to use your bullshit defective product? REALLY!?! WTF over?
What they NEED to do:
Make a MILLED lower FCU ‘bucket’ if you will… this will assist in slowing down the wear as a milled bucket would be superior, and allow better fitment to the slide overall.
THEN Re-measure the secondary sear safety, and THEN redo it if and as needed, and lastly MAKE the new sear out of much STRONGER material… something like Carpenter 158 like they use in AR BCG’s. That shit is impervium I swear… the wear on the sear is worrisome and probably adds to the problem.
Lastly ADD steel reinforced secondary rails to the grip module(s) to eliminate the ‘slop’ on the slide moving all willy-nilly. THAT would ‘tie the whole thing together’ so to speak, much like the Dude’s Rug…
THOSE IMO would fix the P320’s issues.
In fact I’d love to see the stats of the AGE of the weapons that ND’d/AD’d. Any bets they’d be older more well-used pistols?
I mean the modular pistol FCU concept is great IF done properly.
I personally think Sig tried to ‘do it on the cheap’ and are now going to pay for it in spades.
So, what y’all think?

kind of like the testing we did on the Carl G back in 78. that was a great weapon system. back up iron sights, you could re cock and fire it again if need be. we NEVER had that problem with it. all of the rounds worked like they should. unlike that story you told about the “Dragon” system firing.

way better than my other two HI powers. trigger is great, like 3-4 pounds clean break.
safety is a lot easier to click on and off. and they did something to the feed ramp as it will feed just about anything where the other two had problems with hollow points and cast lead bullets.
easy as hell to keep the magazine dump on a 3by 5 card too. I did swap out the sights for XS sights
though. it just “feels” right. not a plastic gun fan by any means. I like the old school steel and wood grips. and a hammer ! I use a Bianchi 100 holster size 100 IWB that is for a 1911 really.
but hey, it works well. just wish they did a better job on the finish really. a bit over 2 years now and it
starting to wear a bit. but it works and shoots great .

My latest pistol is a Tisas Carry. It looks like Ed Browns Kobra Carry, only with Commander, 70 Series parts. Best trigger I’ve ever owned, feeds everything. Dead on at 25 yards, right out of the box…and the Novak style sights are centered! Of the dozen plus 1911’s I’ve had over the last 50 plus years, this is the “best”. Second place goes to a Rock Island Standard FS, that I foolishly traded away.
I had a Springfield Armory Tactical Operator, railed, light weight, 4″ 45. It was a good gun, but the accuracy and trigger, not even close to the Tisas. I didn’t lament it’s leaving to help finance a car for my wife, after the BIGGEST doe EVAR, suicided her Hyundai.
I love, love, love my Rock Island 1911A2. Put thousands of rounds through it and it is still tight, and it just feels right in the hand.
It’s not just cheaply made, it’s also too expensive for what you are getting. Slide to frame fit is important for repeatable accuracy and wear. I agree on using a milled part with proper slide engagement. My guess is DOD will eventually be forced to drop this weapon or force Sig to fix it. I think the Pentagon needs a thorough cleaning out of retards and a ban on any officer working for ANY .mil contractor. Ever. With some severe penalties for both parties if caught doing so.
I wonder if any of the metal parts are MIM.

My P365s were modular but the FCG was
MILLED. They were actually kind of hard
to field strip. I put grease on the “full
length” rails to keep wear minimal. So,
that means they know how to do it properly,
just chose not to. Like Dave said, I
spend quite a while checking out arms
before I buy, if I saw the sloppy piece
of feck BC showed I’d tell the seller that
Sig could jam it up their arse sideways
with habenero sauce on it.
I have only hammer equipped arms, some are
internal but no strikers, never liked them.

many years ago, my brother gave me some high tech airplane grease. I use it on the rails of all of my handguns.
seems to cut the wear down by a lot. I do know they slicker and easier to move with it than without it.
and I use “ED’s red gun oil” on all of my weapons. you can find how to make it online or you used too.
I like running them “wet’ sort of and keep a clean rag handy to wipe off any little bit that comes/bleeds
out of them. I am always amazed at how many people/guys use their weapons almost dry at the range.
I keep a small kit of stuff with my range gear. I have forgotten how many times I shared a bit of oil to some guy running or trying to run his weapon dry at the range.

rails, I might should look into some hi
temp bearing grease perhaps, I bet it lasts
longer. I run my arms semi wet too, friction
is the enemy. An occasional strip, wipe
down and refresh keeps grit from building up.

the grease he got me is red, sort of some sort of hi temp stuff. and if you can find it. add “slick 50” to you oil mix.
works great. or has for me the last 30 plus years now. still on the first or second ‘batch’ I made up. the bore cleaner works very well too. I use a old coffee can to soak my BCG in before taking them apart to clean. works a lot better than Hoppes does.
Found slick 50 on Amazon. 32 ounces for 20 bucks, I’ll get a bottle of
it later on. Been using Butch’s bore shine, works great on bores but it’s too expensive to soak parts in, Ed’s sounds like the way to go. Going to try some bearing grease, had no luck on the aircraft stuff, probably hard to find unless you are a plane mechanic. I use Rem oil for general purpose gun oil. Works well but evaporates after a few months so you have to apply it pretty regularly. Good tips, will put some into service and see how things work out.
Oh, and using my name? Why make BCs pet feebs work, they know who we all are anyway and I figure I’m on the same lists as most of you guys. You aren’t a real American white boy unless you are on at least two these days.

I’ve used homemade Ed’s Red for years. Great stuff. The original recipe used whale oil. I’m fresh out of whales so I use the transmission fluid instead.
Looking at the fcu from an old machinist point of view. The four tabs the slide uses to move on appear not to be bent at all 90 degree angle. That would set them out more into the slides guideways and possibly take up some of the up and down movement. Referring to the still picture from the video showing the rear view of the slide/grip module. Of course the outer edge of those tabs look like shit , the metal looks sheared with dull tooling.
I agree, now if the want to keep the stamped FCG they should use a thicker gauge of sheet and then mill the sear pocket to a tighter tolerance to get rid of the slop. Of course this would require new press dies ($$) and a milling set up to do. The thicker sheet would also get rid of the rail slop as well, could even make the front ones a tad longer at the same time. With current CAD-CAM-CAE the re-engineering to due this should take less than a day. The issue is the will to do it, or a few costly public lawsuits and stockholder backlash
The other issue is that the striker block seems to be disabled by the start of travel meaning that if the trigger is back at all it is disabled.
I think M may have come across THE
major design flaw of the P320.
Most manufacturers release the
firing pin block right before sear
release not at the “begining of
trigger travel”. Major design safety
flaw.
And as X98 stated, the general
manufacture of the FCU is garbage.
The tabs should be 90 degrees and
thick enough to almost fill the slide
rails. Anyone want to bet that inferior
too soft metal was used to save cost?

IDK if the FCU is stamped or milled, but if it is milled then the only thing I can think of to fix the issues are using a more wear resistant steel, which will probably be more costly to mill. I do agree that wear is the likely factor and would explain why Sig can’t figure out the problem because they’re likely testing NEW pistols and that’s a maybe as IDK if Sig cares enough to spend time trying to fix an issue they say doesn’t exist, sort of like the Epstein files.
I mean, if the Epstein thing is a big hoax, why is the DOJ talking to Ghislaine Maxtits?
Another factor I think may be at play is the polymer grip frame shell. Those don’t look very rigid and I’m thinking with enough pressure on the slide or frame, it could release the sear. Not saying polymer frames are all terrabad, plenty of them don’t have these issues, but I’d wonder if a metal frame or a more rigid polymer shell would fix the issue.
Clearly tho, the FCU is the culprit, probably along with the striker being fully cocked, which the Springfield XD’s are too, but again, don’t have the issues the P320 has.
I don’t think there’s any fix for the 320 that Sig will actually implement and the novelty of changing out grip frames for a fat doublestack in a world of singlestack CCW pistols like the P365 doesn’t make sense for the money. I’d rather have two pistols of different sizes and barrel lengths than one 320 I can play Legos with.
I was a big fan of my S&W pistols b/c of their reputation for quality, and have been pleased with my carry pistol for many years of worry-free striker fired goodness! The fact that my neighbors here in EastTN are building them now gives me even more confidence in their brand.

Well you do have a point there. My wife has never shown her assets to anyone but me since we got together and she wears minimal make up. That was one of the things that about her that I found attractive.
And she is quite intelligent and logical for a woman. One of the reasons that I’m still here with her for so many years.
I kind of agree. She has a very nice body, but her face is a bit…strange. Not necessarily unattractive, there’s just something I find odd about it. I’ve also noticed in many to the recent shots of her online (arising from all the fake controversy over the new ad campaign she stars in) that she is frequently seen with the whites of her eyes visible under the irises. That’s generally not a good sign regarding psychological stability (if you know, you know), and is often seen in cluster b cases, FWIW. Then again, from what little I know of her, she seems to be pretty laid back, so hell if I can say what her deal is.
The thing I find most off putting about her is her manner of speech. She has that stoned/disaffected vocal fry thing going on, which is all too common in women her age, and it really grates on me. Not as much as a the screeching harpy voice so many women now have, but it would certainly irritate me if I had to spend any significant time around her. She also presents that stoned/disinterested facial expression a lot. But then, as an actress, we are generally seeing her in a staged setting, so maybe that’s just her being “on brand”. It’s all artifice to begin with, a giant put on meant to cultivate a focus group tested image.
All that said, it’s at least refreshing to see an ad campaign that doesn’t feature weirdo misfits, obvious and obnoxious smarmy jews, 2G’s, interracial couples (always with a 2G), unambiguously gay characters, transfaggots, or faggotized hyperdiversity Teletubbies (as in the now infamous Jaguar ad). Just a young, healthy looking white woman with a naturally attractive body devoid of jungle booty and shitty tatts. The world would benefit from having more who resembled her, in place of all the blue haired, feminist spandex clad enormities, banjo lip moon crickets, squatamalans, pajeets and other visually offensive detritus we see all around us on a daily basis.
I still abhor advertising, and wish it were not an innate part of our existence. But if it has to exist, the Sydney Sweeney ads are a damn sight better than almost anything we’ve been presented since the Carl’s Jr./Hardee’s ads of the early 2000’s. Remember the chick eating the burger while riding a mechanical bull to Foghat’s Slowride? Yeah, that made an impression. And much like the present case, it pissed off all the right people.
As for that Sig P320, the tolerances on that chunk of shit look to have more slop in them than a sorority chick who’s been run through by the whole football team. Who the hell approves a design like that for production? That thing is going to wear about as gracefully as a $20 pair of shoes form Walmart. I’d never seen one up close, as I neither own one, nor had any interest in them. Quite glad now that I never even gave them a first look.

The P365, or How to do a P320 Right.
I had a number of P365s a couple of years after
they came out. Many initial problems had been
fixed. Broken firing pins, etc. I did have
some problems with bad tritium on a slide and
got to experience Sig’s lack of customer
service. They are really full of
themselves. Without further ado.
The Magazines.
Sig claims to have designed the magazine and then
built the 365 around it. I believe them. So did

The Good.
It’s a hybrid double stack that turns single stack
near the top. The metal is well formed and the
springs are reliable. It was nice to carry 12, 15
or 17 round mags that fit the micro 365. I kept a
12 in it to avoid printing.
The Bad.
Good god Sig is proud of those things! 55 to 60 per
mag. Made collecting a decent amount quite expensive.
The Ugly.
Rust. On your mags. Right above the baseplate.
During the Texas sweat season, about 7 months or
so, you had better clean and oil those things or
you get to pay more big money to Sig. Horrible
coating, just standard blueing.
The Pistol.
Pretty much impervious to rust in my Kydex holster.
Stainless and high strength aluminum with a phosphate
finish. Why didn’t they make the mags that way?
Extremely tight rail to slide fit, break in was
“required” for it to be reliable and not have FTFs.
The slide on brand new ones would fail to go completely
into battery until it ate about 50 rounds causing FTFs.
A slight thumb push and it would fire. These were
stripped and oiled before firing.
Very pleasant to shoot for a tiny pistol. Good accuracy
at 15 yards. Dumped fired brass at 45 degrees to the right and
forward for easy brass recovery. Some firing pin drag could
be seen on primers which accounted for early models breaking
pins. No stove piping or FTEs ever. Not even once. I shot
Gold Dot and HSTs pretty much exclusively, some FMJ of
various name brands for range work.
The 365 modular system works. I converted one to a Macro,
worked fine. Good stiff polymer grips. It was easy to swap
the FCU or FCG (the serialized gun part) to another grip.
My son has that one now.
Was my EDC for 2.5 years, it pretty much disappeared under a
loose T-shirt. So comfortable I would forget it was there.
My last two had the manual safety. I was never comfortable
without one. Sweeps down like a 1911 so no problem, would
sweep it off on the draw. Safety levers could had been a
bit larger.
I finally traded off both of the 365s due to declining health
and hand strength. Not because they sucked. Too hard for me
to rack the slide against the stiff little recoil spring.
I don’t have that problem with my full size Berretas or my
Smith EZ 9s.
So that’s pretty much it. The XMacro and such would have been a
good basis for the P320 to keep it from being a steaming pile
of dogshit.

Built an 80% p320 a few years ago. I was a bit concerned about the slop and chalked it up to my lack of machining skills. Turns out I made it tighter than the factory one a friend owned. Still has some play due to design. I tried to replicate the stuff the video had, but didn’t get any misfires. You are probably correct re the wear and tear on the pistol.

The backing away from institutional buyers will then follow on closely, as they don’t themselves want to wind up in the sights of those specialist class action law firms for failing to head identifiable problems with these weapons, and continuing to mandate manifestly defective weapons to their forces. Went down and tried to get my 320 to click. Was unloaded. Could not make it click. Mine is bone stock with a round count of 60. I wonder what the round count was on the failing frames.
Have to see if sig gets it figured out and has a fix. Most likely wear so there should be a fix someday.
