More Work on The Boat

Greetings and Salutations!
OK So today’s headlight cleaner/restorer came in courtesy of Terrapod (I think)… a random Amazon delivery. GREATLY Appreciated kind sir, and to the reader who sent me the check, it showed. Y’all generosity is overwhelming I swear.

Now, Thing is, the headlight restorer, the ‘one and done’ showed up AFTER I used the Cerakote Kit that I had gotten on Monday… What’s interesting that I sort of fucked up when I did the main headlights… as you can see:

I forgot the fog lamps!

BUT!

It gives a great comparison as the headlights were as jacked up and yellowed as the fog lamps. You can see the marked improvement. I swear I should get paid to endorse this stuff. Here’s a left and right close-up:

Looking Good Billie-Rae!
Feeling Good Louis!

Now the cool thing about me forgetting to do the fog lamps?

NOW with the one Terrapod sent me, I’ll be able to use that as a compare/contrast test. I’ll hit the fog lamps tomorrow and see how they turn out.

I also have a new grill to put on AND the new window internals showed up, so this’s coming together rather well and quickly.

Brand-Spanky-New!!!

I also figured out what hardware I need to mount it on, as the old nuts that would normally be re-used on the old one are rusted to Hell-and-Gone. No worries… Home Depot was able to get me the correct lock-nuts for $0.17 a piece as opposed to the Ford/Lincoln Factory “Fasteners” (common lock-nuts as mentioned) that are like $1.25 a piece.

The Lincoln Emblem is somewhat problematic. The old one I’m going to try and refinish and reuse, as there ARE new ones out there, but they average about $70 bux. I did get excited when I found one for $35 but then the shipping and handling was like $37???

How the Hell they get away with shit like that, on a 4oz. piece of plastic is beyond MY understanding… Grift is my call… pure and simple Grift.

Now, since the Cerakote headlamp restoration kit worked so well, I’m eager to see how their Paint Sealer/Restoration kit is. I mean whatever it does, It’ll be an improvement no matter what.

Guess we’ll have to see.

Telling you… between rifle restoration and now truck restoration? I mean this’s becoming a full-time ‘thing’ restoring “stuff” if you will… And yep, I still am working on that other and last Lee Enfield… things have just been, as you’ve seen, a might chaotic up ’round here.

Let me know what you think!

  1. Can’t vouch for the CeraKote paint sealer, but I’ve used their trim restorer and it works very well on gray/black trim, like she’ll moldings, rockers, and bumpers. Last at least a year in Georgia sun.

  2. I’m thinking that whenever SWMNBN finds out what your current ride is, she’s gonna be just a wee bit unhappy / jealous.

        1. In Florida it is unlikely that she will have any piece of his ride that he acquired after the separation.
She already has the car which has a much higher value than a truck he got for free.
My concern is regarding the house. Not knowing what the prior to marriage arrangements were I will have no further comment.
That is what lawyers are for.

  3. It is looking incredible. Shine, power, and style-what’s not to love? Can’t wait to see it when you finish dolling it up.

  4. Restoring things makes you appreciate them more as you’ve invested your time.
And it make you take better care of your stuff.

  5. Totally off topic
Just sliced the back of my left hand and nicked at least one tendon. Fortunately I am a righty but …
I use my hands for a lot of fine work. Probably a tendon repair this week. If anyone is in a praying mood, I could use a few.

    1. Prayers and good mojo sent your way. Understand your conundrum, chopped the end of my left index finger off about 20 years ago. Not a big deal, except I play guitar (hobbyist, but still important to me). Do the work needed, and you’ll see results. Might not be what you envision, but it’s better than nothing. All you gotta do is try.

    2. Get it done, man. I nicked my ring finger tendon a couple of years ago at the upper knuckle, didn’t get it fixed. It sags, which looks silly and can make odd things like trying to hold fasteners in weird positions much more annoying.

    3. I feel for you. My wife detached a tendon in her wrist in 2023. Had it surgery to repair it and it’s still not 100%. She’s a cobbler so it impacts her work as she does a lot of hammering on those shoes she makes. It’s a long process of rehabilitation.

      1. Eval with the best local hand doc is tomorrow morning, with his PA. Depending upon findings, he offered to come back from his vacation early for a Friday surgery, but Probably Monday.
He deserves his time off too, honestly. Been there, done that

  6. Looking good. I tried that stuff once and did not get results like that. But it was a jap car so who knows. Working good for you though.

Need to get some bolts for holding savage receiver in the stock. Might jus got with some hardware store bolts and call it good.

  7. What, no brush-guard/anti-street blocker guard? Come on, BCE, you gotta Mad-Max it a little bit, no?

And what brand headlight restorer did you get?

    1. Working within a budget, and I got time bro!
Trust me.. a Haji Squisher is on the menu, along with a roof-basket

      1. Make sure you have a tow strap hooked up and then run inside the back door, for the complete contractor look. (Never mind the UV deteriorating it so it snaps when you REALLY need it.)

      2. Make sure you get one that mounts to the frame.
Cousin refers to bumper mount brush guards as “damage enhancers”.

Buddy of mine bought a kit for the front of his 250. Came in prefabricated pieces, he did the welding. He’s got a TIG welder and was”between jobs” at the time, since he wasn’t diverse enough… so he had the time. Saved him a bunch of shekels.

It also mounts a hidden winch and is a very solid piece.

  8. It already has a Lincoln badge on the old grill. Pop it off, use your computer skills to print you a right-sized sticker (or paint it) of your unit badge or Sapper’s face, and put it back on.

  9. Formula 1 scratch out twice a year keeps our headlights clear and unyellowed. Should be 7 bucks at any ace hardware.

  10. Try shopping at a Harley dealer. I bought a new seat maybe ten years ago. I noticed it didn’t come with hardware. 1/4 inch bolt and locknut. He said that’ll be 14 dollars. I said you gotta be shitin’ me. I’ve bought three new bikes here. Many parts. I knew him pretty well. He said, here. just take them.

  11. I get into watching people restoring things since I’m stuck on a boat most of the year and don’t get that kind of freedom. Boats, pinball machines, furniture, heavy equipment… I find it all satisfying, even if it’s just voyeurism into the lives of normal people doing shit I can’t for lack of time, space and storage.
My family rolls their eyes when I do shit like replace the motor on a dustbuster I bought in 1992 when I’m home.

  12. Any nicer on Das Boat Big Guy and somebody gonna boost it. BTW on the almost shoot out at the happy juice store, time to un-ass the AO. Trip feral gimmedats are going to come back and terrorize the locals. Get out while property values are still good. YOU ARE NO LONGER TIED TO THE AREA! Your soon to be ex’s drama circus were the tent stakes in your life. They are gone. Find a nice quiet place to resettle into. Maybe out by The Cowboy or another state.

    Wish you well.

    1. hood rats travel. that is why carjacking is a big thing. they get a “ride” besides whatever they can off the owner of said ride and then they go “hunting”. seen it happen many times before I left Philly.
that is why, when you stop for gas. you better keep a eye out and a weapon handy.
UNLESS you drive a “stick”. they have problems trying to drive a stick. then again, so does most people
today ? also too is the fact of how new and clean your ride might be. they don’t want dirty cars for some reason ? I told a few friends still in the Philly area to check out the gas station first before stopping to fill up. time is a factor as well. early morning is the safest- they like to sleep in ? anyway, before noon is about the best time to go and fill up.
as for unassing the AO. a big yes to that. your EX will show up again and again. count on it.
“brush guards” that mount to the frame are best. at least 5/16 steel works really well.
ARB makes some really good ones, but pricey though. a winch is nice to have, but I only used mine 2 times in the past 15 years or so. and not to get my ass out of a jam. a couple of hundred bucks I never needed really. cargo basket is nice to have, but get one with a wind shield /deflector on it.
a cargo net might be a better idea for the back space though. or some way to keep your food bags from
going all over the back. milk crates work well for that too. had 2 of them in my 4runners for years
oil and stuff like. if you plan on going off road/back trails, a good air compressor is a must item.
if you come across some old railroad tracks, try deflating the tires a bit and riding the “rails”
my old 4runners did it with ease. you just have to air up the tires once you get off the rails.
anyway, ride looking good there . but for sure, you should be looking to move somewhere else
and not near any place your Ex knows about either. get a P.O. BOX for at least the first 6 months to a year. change your phone number too. this is not over by any means. and as things get worse for her,
she will try to get “back together” again. I seen this too many times to count with other guys.
and guys used to laugh when I told them to move 5 states away from your EX too.
glad things are working out for you. keep it up and you see life afterwards is a lot better without all of the bullshit and drama crap.

      1. I bet I hit 10+ other vehicles with my Land Cruiser in Iraq. That ARB bumper was fantastic!

Just did the headlight restoration on my truck this morning. Really impressed! Thanks for the inspiration!

        1. slid into a concrete fill pole one time on the ice and it just bounced off. didn’t even hurt the paint !
pulled it off my 89 4 runner and bought a 94 4runner just because of that bumper.
back when I bought mine is was like 700 back then. like 25-30 years ago now.
