A Bit of Rifle Work and Say a Few Prayers For Us Please

Greetings and Salutations!
Happy Easter!
Hope everyone had a relaxing day communing with The Lord in whatever way you feel most comfortable with. For me, well Gretchen came back and well…

She’s flying out tomorrow to get checked by Doc Samizdat.
There’s a significant lump in her right boobie that has me highly concerned. She’s headed back there and Doc has a slot scheduled for surgery IF it’s needed.

We’re hoping it’s a fluid buildup.
If not?
Well… I’ll just leave it all in The Lord’s hands and hopefully things will work out the way they need to His Will Be Done.

So yeah… this sort of news/stuff leaves me sort of just drained. Like I haven’t had enough horseshit to deal with on the regular. I will say I do grow weary of being a metaphysical shit-magnet for real. I mean quite literally I haven’t (as far as I know) done something Karmatically speaking that should be bringing this near-constant heat on to me.

It’s enough for me to chuck it all and decide that it’s time to go “Full Retard”… and if such a time does in fact come, y’all will hear it here first.

Now, the rest of the 2A1 is currently hanging on the drying rack. Like I said, because of the various metal impurities I discovered, and by deeper research, I found that a painted-on grey-ish Parkerized finish IS one of the ones that the Hindus used when building these out. It depended on when the particular rifle was converted from .303 Brit to 7.62/.308 NATO. The later variants were done in the grey, and as this one was made in 1966, then the grey it shall be.

Here endth that lersson.

What I did do however was start fitting the lower main stock piece to the receive and barrel. The ‘donor rifle’… that nasty DP .303 that I started with?

As you know I refinished the HELL out of it.
It still needs to be fitted to the ‘new’ .308 receiver and barrel that’s what tonight’s adventure has been all about.

Some time ago I picked up (I think at a Ren-Faire) a small wood carving kit. I think I wanted to start playing around with doing some projects like that or something… too many years/beers to properly remember. Either way, it’s a nice lil kit:

Very ‘Ren-Faire-ish’ in it’s presentation. However the tools themselves are fantastic:

10 Chisels of various sizes and angles.
VERY sharp.
So much so I only need a little bit of hand pressure to carve, and even then I have to go very lightly lest I take too large a chuck of wood out. Using these, I spent the better part of the night

c-a-r-e-f-u-l-l-y

carving out the areas on the lower stock that were too tight for the action/receiver to slide in:

I took my time…
Like a LOT of time.
A wee bit of carving at a time. Teeny bits of wood.
No rush. Just accuracy and care.

Too many people rush things.
THIS is a game of ‘slow walking’ to get the best result.
Two hours of labor later:

It fits like a glove.
And the next step will be to bed and float the barrel. That’s on the list, but if I can’t get to it, it is what it is.

So that’s it for tonight. Gretchen leaves tomorrow and Sapper is punching on a Recon Mission on Thursday, so as of Thursday, I’ll be an all Ugly One-Man Band.

Me, the two doggos and the fucking cats.
It should be cool.

I hope.
So More Later

  1. Prayers for The Lady G and for you, Big.
Bro, you have much going on and many balls to juggle. Just keep us all in the loop.

  2. Prayers for Wifey, hopefully it’s a false alarm.

I too often wonder why shitty things happen to good people yet scumbags NOTHING bad seems to happen to ?
I’ve speculated what if reincarnation and karma is true and we have to pay for example when we were in the Roman Legion and laid waste to a land ?

Hell, I dunno the answer can also be what I told my kids many times: Rule 1 of life is “Life Isn’t Fucking Fair”.

    1. So sorry for your “troubles”, and prayers to you both. You have quite a load resting on your, very broad shoulders, your tank “incident” didn’t help your load bearing capability. The wife and I both have “significant” spinal issues. We require and get Hydrocodone and OxyContin for our beyond “moderate” pain levels, so we are acutely aware of how chronic pain, with interspersed acute pain, can “run you down”. Immune system, general health, attitude and much else, all affected but pain. Most folks can’t “Zen” it away, it’s relentlessly wearing on you.
      I have a theory about Karma, it’s not absolute. NPC’s don’t have a
God created soul, so Karma for them is hit and miss, they are doomed, in any event.
Humans with a real soul are held to higher standards, sensitivities, plus, some karma isn’t actually earned, it rubs off or is borrowed, taken on, from others.
Plus, you never know how some people might “shine” in ours and other dimensions, thereby attracting bad actors/karma.

  3. Sone people believe in karmic debt, its possible your working off something bad in a past life or something really good in a future one.

  4. As St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta said: “The Lord promises not to test us beyond our strength. I sometimes wish He didn’t trust me so much!”

  5. Dammit, that, re: Gretchen, fucking sucks.

Hope it’s just fluid buildup. Or benign swelling.

Stay focused, stay sane, she’ll need you when she gets back.

And, no, it’s not karmic rebound crap. Shit happens, to bad people, to good people. It’s the way it is. No more, no less. I knew a guy who was probably the best person I ever met, a truly fine dude, who suffered freaky ex-wife (who only showed her true colors once married,) anal cancer and died on the table from an exploding artery during an exploratory mission to find out why his heart was not perfect. Serious righteous dude, looked tubby but had a resting pulse of around 40 or so. Shit struck him down.

Stuff happens for no reason at all. You’ve seen it, the perfectly normal nice person gets plowed over by some fucknut drunken hopped up illegal, who crawls out of a seriously mangled car with barely scratches.

Literally, shit happens. Good or bad. It’s how you handle shit happening that determines your standing in the world.

Keep the faith. Pet the doggo and the kitties. Don’t be afraid to call someone you know and talk to them. Or get someone who can stand to be around you to come over and just hang around and be there for you.

    1. BC, despite my earlier post, this too, is valid! “off gassing” as the wife and I call it, is good for the soul. You don’t need solutions (you’re good at those), you just need to blow off some off gassing with a sympathetic ear.

  6. Best of luck to Gretchen!!!

As for you -one day at a time, chief. Walk the dogs, love them up and get some long walks in. Regular controlled decompression is everything in stress management.

Remember to look after yourself too.

  7. Just wanted to send my thoughts and prayers to you and your wife and hope her diagnosis is non-cancerous. I’m not a physician but I will suggest a treatment option you may have already considered that can be summarized in one word: Ivermectin. It’s been demonized over the last few years I think mostly because: 1. it’s been proven very effective for a surprising variety of medical conditions including cancer, 2. it has a long and safe track record, 3. they couldn’t get an E.U.A. for the vaxx if there was an alternative treatment for the coof, and most importantly, 4. it’s off patent so the Phuckers at Pfizer couldn’t charge you 5 grand a pill for it. As I said above I’m not a physician so if you blindly follow my advice you’re likely to die. Do your own due diligence. Docs have been shown to be reluctant to prescribe it but you can get the infamous horse paste from the Zon. FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS. It’s the same stuff that’s prescribed in pill form. See what your doc thinks. My 4 cents worth (inflation) but something you might want to consider. If you’re ever in Tennessee drop by. I’m located southeast of Kingsport. I’ll buy y’all a beer or nineteen.
Best of luck to both of you. My prayers are with you.

  8. News Flash… we all are “shit magnets”, but some do seem to be a bit more magnetized than others. My oldest son sure is!
    Prayers for the lady.

  9. Yo, BC. Happy the parts made it. If they don’t work for you please pass them on to someone who could use them. So, a bunch of us have traveled to FL right now to pray for my SIL for a recently diagnosed serious health issue. We are adding Gretchen into that circle of prayers along with you and the rest of your family. Stay strong big guy and God Bless you all.

  10. May the Good Lord heal and comfort Gretchen and her family. When I’m feeling sad and lonely, I dig into the Bible, and look at some other’s troubles. And I call some people, to talk. Always look on the bright side of life……………

    1. Prayers. Keep us updated. You are not alone, we’re here when you need us. Sounds tired… but it’s true.

      1. Def prayers coming Gretchen’s way. Take care, both of you. Let us know if there’s anything we can do. Is it the same breast or the opposite?

  11. Oh yeah! the stock refinishing looks fricken awesome! So does the rifle. Hope it’s accurate, it would cost an arm and a leg to get a modern rifle, of that quality, in 308. Plus, it’s a ten shooter!

  12. +1 on ivermectin esp when combined with fenbendazole. May finding highly effective.Ann Barnhardt has details over on her site as do the frontline docs with their protocols over at their new site icfnn dot org.

  13. Prayers for both of you. Suggestion: Take the doggos for long walks, get yourself some quiet time, when Gretchen gets home cook up a nice meal. Nothing says “I love and care about you” like a nice dinner and some time just holding each other.
(assistance for same should arrive Tuesday)
