3. BCE, HELL YEAH to the Intellivision, which totally smoked the Atari 2600. True, the controllers were shit for long-term play, but they were an innovative design at the time in being the very first to offer 16 discrete directions, versus 8 in all other conventional joysticks. Having the keypad for added functionality was a big improvement, too. You didn’t miss much with the Intellivoice. It was a novelty that didn’t really have much staying power, only 4 Intellivoice enabled games were ever officially made. Think there have been one or two other previously unreleased/incomplete games from back in the day that finally saw daylight in the last few years. So, that accessory was kind of a letdown.

   Some years ago, in a fit of nostalgia, I scrounged up a Sears Super Video Arcade, which is just a repackaged Intellivision in even more delightfully late 1970s dress,nof creme colored plastic with burled walnut highlights, and detachable controllers. Otherwise functionally identical, and plays all the old Intellivision favorites. Fun to drag out now and again to play Triple Action Bi-Planes against my brother, and have even introduced my nieces and nephews to the old school vidya games. Sea Battle was another great game, and quite unique among home consoles.

   Colecovision was sort of cool, but it’s crowning achievement (IMHO) was being the only console of it’s time to have a first rate, arcade accurate port of Donkey Kong. Nobody else could touch their version for years afterwards. The Commodore 64 probably did, but that wasn’t the same, since it was a full blown computer (with a price tag to match).

   As to the state of our country, you’ve hit on something I’ve been trying to convey to people for a while: the very way society is structured (as goes being a productive person, and normal family formation) is an inherent weakness that leaves the decent and normal population at perpetual risk, as the subversives typically have no such incentives holding them back. Having a decent job, assets of real value (a home, vehicles, maybe a boat and cabin at the lake, etc.) and a spouse and kids one is responsible for, tends to discourage one from risking it all to go and kick the shit out of some juvenile asshole wankers who are screwing everything up. Said shitheads, meanwhile, are typically disposable (and those driving their behavior know this all too well) and so are easy to goad, since they have little or nothing of tangible value in their lives they are worried about losing.

   So, they hit the street and create big problems, which is bad enough on its own. But once their type gets control of government, the bad guys now have the defacto backing of the machine, most importantly it’s cops and courts. Which means the bad guys get to operate with impunity, and we get fucked by the bad actors in the street, and then again by the government, should we get any ideas about being uppity and trying to combat their “unofficial” foot soldiers.

   The only real defense against this sorry state of affairs is constant vigilance to ensure the institutions (education, arts/media, religion, corporations, and government itself) do not fall under the control of these giant assholes. Well, we have utterly failed at preventing that most intolerable state of affairs, and so here we are, faced with having to do it all the hard way yet again. Sonofabitch, anyway.

5. Two historical analogs that are relevant:

   Second, the powers that be today fear anything that even remotely looks like the 1914 Christmas truce. Imagine French and German soldiers playing soccer and singing Christmas carols in no-man’s land – they can’t have anyone finding commonality or even viewing each other is human. That scares the pants off of them. They made sure that never happened as WW1 devolved into a mindless and wasteful slaughter. Those soccer playing soldiers might have decided that they had no reason to fight each other but, plenty of reasons to fight the elites that put them there. Fun fact: the first UK firearms restriction came from a report to Parlement that indicated that returning soldiers might want to tell Parlement their feelings regarding the recent conflict and that restricting their arms would be good for self-preservation. I imagine a lot of .gov people have the same fear.

8. Yup. Wife and I babysat our grandson for awhile today. He just turned 5. He and I are buddies. I’d like to hang around awhile longer, teach him a few things.

   At 70+, I don’t have the arm and shoulder strength of my youth. I built a shorter, lighter upper for my rainy day/social services AR. Made it to the range yesterday to shoot it and zero the LPVO. Once zeroed, two different loads centered well inside a 2 inch circle at 50 yards.

   1. I put a 100 yard zero on my M16A2 clone build using instructions online on how to reset the rear sight drum. Surprisingly, my cheap Bear Creek Arsenal 20″ nitrided cold hammer forged barrel gave me a true 1.5 MOA group at 100 using a bench rest. I’ll take that any day, and twice on Sundays. The 100 yard zero zero gives you a flatter trajectory than other zeros. I’ve been pretty happy with it so far.

      I’m regressing. I had the M4 GWOT style ARs with all the bells and whistles, but they just didn’t do it for me. Then I built the A2 clone, just like the one I had for the 2nd half of my enlistment and I’m so happy with it I put an A1 clone on layaway, yesterday.

      You don’t have enough ammo. You don’t have enough hard-hearted friends, and the ones you may have don’t have enough ammo, either. I need more ammo, too!

      1. Slip your A2 ring and zero your rifle for a 50/200.

         Loosen BDC drum with allen. Dial down past the 25 2 clicks, leave 1 extra for clearence. Zero at 50/200 and the rest of your BDC drum will still track with 62gr and most other loads.

         Its also known as the Santos zero. close POA/POI out to 300m. 400m on an Etype, especially with that 20″.

         Youll be about:
         Zeroed @ 50
         1 MOA high @ 100.
         Zeroed @ 200’ish
         2 MOA low @ 300
         3 MOA low @ 400

         25/300 sucks. Imprecise and youll often shoot high at midrange. Better low than high for splash vis, adjustment and reengage. Plus bonus of possible ricochette.

    1. The issue here is that the laws on anti semitism and the constant emotional manipulation has created an unbelievable amount of resentment. It is also very apparent that the current and past position on Iran is largely driven by Israeli policies preferences and APAC, not the will of Americans.     I have been pondering a great deal lately on conflicting duties, and which is stronger – the god given duty to my family, or my personal duty to do what is right? I remember a long while back reading a novel set in the Forgotten Realms (before TSR was consumed by the lefty beast) where one of the characters was a cleric of Tymora, the goddess of luck, and his faith required him to blindly wager at every point, not just games, but his actions in “real life” – like whether or not to engage in battle or buy a horse etc. and not evaluate his chances of success, just go for it EVERY TIME, trusting luck to sort it all out. The cleric was a total drunk, and this was explained in the text that he was that way because as a naturally considerate person who bore heavy responsibilities ( he was lord of some type with subjects to care for – don’t remember the specifics), he struggled with leaving everything to simple chance, and steeled himself with drink. I understand the character a lot more these days than I did when I read that book back in the 80s or early 90s.

    My mental struggling is based around Matthew 6:25-34 -hence the statement about going full Paladin letting the chips fall.

When I was a kid, and playing first gen home consoles, the games were short, not terribly complex, and were strictly simple entertainment for kids. Most adults (over 21 years old, at any rate) didn’t embrace it to any great extent, nor did they hang out in the actual arcades that existed at that time.

       Vidyagames morphed into something far more insidious in the mid-late 90’s with the release of Play Station, and much more realistic game play that took many hours to complete. Now we have grown men even into their 40’s spending many hours playing games, often for internet clout. My interest in video games dissipated before the second gen systems (NES, Sega Master System) debuted in 1985, and I had moved on to self-teaching myself how to program computers, and work on electronics by then. And still spent many hours outside, riding bikes and doing “normal” kid stuff, with very little emphasis on TV, and virtually none on video games.

    11. Just odd….Ramadan started up this week in Germany…..it got noticed that Muslim youths are acting as “religious police” in German schools during Ramadan and forcing students to fast.

    Reaction by teachers? Frustration….students are getting dehydrated because they are forbidding students from drinking. What’s odd here….you go back to 2015 or 2020….this type of student enforcement simply didn’t occur.

26. If you want to play some old video games look into a raspberry pi, its a single board computer. You do not need the latest most expensive model, pretty sure i have a pi 4 from 2020. Install retro pi on it. Download ALL the games from any system that old for free from internet archive, you can get a zip for each system the old shit was tiny. Everything up through snes/genesis works pretty good.

    Also internet archive has all the music from the 1900s for free, no login, no viruses, no weird download setup, just a website with everything an old guy wants for free

27. Still have a vintage Intellivision console somewhere, plus the speech module (“THAT WAS OOON TARGET!”), B-17 Bomber, Bomb Squad, etc. And had Intelli-thumb back in the day. Hooked it up to a another guy’s TV in the barracks, and spent many a lunch break playing the hell outta that thing. Utopia, Burgertime, etc.
