I noticed when I watched the video of the Pretti shooting that there was one shot, a pause and then several more shots.
Someone later noticed that the agent that had secured Pretti’s pistol had his grip under the trigger guard, so no finger in the trigger. My immediate thought was P320 self discharged.

Agree with BCE’s take regarding the real issue being his FA by directly interfering with cops (ICE), and his FO has exactly zero to do with the fact he was packing. The dumb dyke who got wasted wasn’t, so carrying a gat is not a precondition for getting blown away by nervous LEOs, if one is right up in their faces, physically interfering in whatever operation they are conducting. And this after more than a week of ongoing escalation with people causing ICE all manner of problems. I’d be a bit jumpy too, under those conditions. Uninformed mouthy fuckers still feel entitled to try and canonize this pretti giant asshole with ex post facto justifications, with all the culpability resting on the cops, of course. And I don’t even like cops, so for me to take their side means he really screwed the pooch.
Now, the gun made it more likely he was gonna get popped, but even without it, the same outcome could have occured. I pointed out over at Art Sido’s place that if this guy really wanted to fulfill his apparent fantasy of killing cops, he could have chosen a rooftop, or another location where he could have fired from some
sort of concealment in an ambush attack. If he was a decent shot at all, he probably could probably could have bagged a couple before they returned fire (and ultimately killed him anyway). By choosing to get up close and personal from the get go for a hands on scuffle instead, he didn’t have the element of surprise on his side, he was outnumbered, and he paid the price. The bottom line is, if you really want to do some sketchy shit, you need to have a plan. This doofus didn’t. And now we are being subjected to all kinds of stupid sideshow arguments that have no actual bearing on what happened, or why.
Key points are that:
1. ICE was carrying out a legit operation to take one or more individuals who were already found to be here illegally, under judicial due process. Finally, the FEDGOV was actually doing something it was supposed to, and this asshole wanker decided to try and stop them.
2. Random assholes have been hassling ICE wherever they go to conduct these operations in Minnedishu for a couple of weeks now. I imagine these guys in the field are getting a bit rattled. Nervous feds with big guns constantly having to watch their six are not the sorts you want to dance with.
3. Interfering with a police officer (or federal agent) carrying out an operation is itself a felony, so expect them to react forcefully.
4. Anyone who gets into a physical confrontation with a cop should expect they will get an ass beating (at best) and with sufficient escalation, to be shot by said cop(s) at worst.
He had every opportunity to avoid this outcome by simply not acting like an impulsive stupid fuck.
