Cozumel and Ruin

Greetings and Salutations!
A gorgeous day in Cozumel. Again -I- was one of the first off the boat (On the bounce Cap Trooper!)

One of the kind folks on the dock took that pic of me.

Cozumel: The best description I can have of it is that it’s waaaaay overly-commercialized. I was not impressed. LOTS of the usual crap, Senor Frogs (cheap drinks and obnoxious tourists) TONS of bogus souvenir shops and obnoxious locals (hustling a buck) and the only thing of not was the Pharmacia… wee that there are three of them right outside the tourist trap area.

The pyramids (leastways the one I saw) was cool but TBH meh.r

….and of course Iggy was out and about:

THAT BTW is a stock pic as NONE of the Iguanas would sit still long enough to get a pic of… better either way as they tend to be ornery critters at best in my experiences from Guantanamo.

Now I’ve had a Hell of a time getting my pix transferred over to the lappie. The amount of time to do just ONE picture is insane, so yeah, Stock Pix (with the exception of the one of moi)

So I was able to stock up on some good meds at least.

Otherwise, when I get the pix I did get downloaded, I’ll share my observations and stories… one of which is “Never trust the Green Stuff”…

I’ll get into that later…
So off to dinner w/my Fren

  1. You look relaxed and happy. I love our Founding Fathers. MEN-who lived their lives and mostly left everyone else alone. And I love hard cider too.

  2. The rest of Cozumel, away from downtown and pier is beautiful. There are a variety of resorts. Every time we have visited, the place is relaxing and the locals are friendly and welcoming. It is also relatively safe to venture off resort. A favorite place for a quick getaway and recharge

  3. Hey, I was just there a couple of days ago!

You need to checkout the Cozumel Bar Hop bus. Takes you to 4 bars on the remote side of the island – no power, few tourists and pristine views. Well worth it.

  4. Greetings and salutations. Been following your posts for a while. Never commented before but thought I’d add a little history to this post. Haven’t been to Cozumel in more than 20 years when it was a lot sleepier than it now seems to be. Last time I was there they were just starting to expand the pier to accommodate more cruise ships so that a lot more Olde Pharts could dodder about dropping dineros on authentic Mexican souvenirs made in China. Pity really, although I’m sure the diving is still great since the good dive sites are 20+ minutes away by fast boat. Only reason to go there really.
One comment about a previous post re: checking out for island living. Don’t know how serious you are about that but I considered it myself and decided against it since the island would be at the mercy of resupply by ship. Any lengthy interruption and there’d be a problem since small islands can only support a much smaller population naturally.
Another reason for you specifically not going is rather selfish. If the S really does HTF, we’d need someone with your knowledge and experience to help fight off rampaging goblins. I’m not one to talk though. I retired a couple of years ago and escaped Mordor on the Potomac and am now in N.E. Tennessee, hoping the madness will pass me by.
Anyway, glad to see you getting the RnR you deserve. Safe travels.

  5. Enjoy brother; I should do some traveling myself, the burden has been heavy the last several years.

  6. I’m staring to become a believer Mr. Refrigerator.

Another half a foot fell overnight when the forecast was for zero.. We have about 3ft on the ground at 11 degrees right now and it isn’t even winter yet.

I’ve been plowing about 8 hours a day since right after Thanksgiving.

To make things worser, the loser county plows have NOT been coming down here like they always did. I’ve seen them maybe twice this year when they used to come every. day.
I’ve been clearing the 700′ of roadway in front of my place..

Scumbags will forego the roads but not collecting their checks.. This will be the way of the future for everyone.

    WTF?!

Sorry (not sorry) to read about your surplus of snow.
Ya want ta send some of it my way (SL County, UT)?
We have lots of mountain peaks to dump it all onto.
We need that winter snow to give us our summer water.

  7. Glad you had fun. Post previously, but check out John Wick Ballerina for some flamethrower corn.

Also, HEBs in TX sell a few different El Yucateco hot sauces of varying heat. Might check your local ethnic and regular grocers.

If you liked Progresso non tourist areas, youd prob enjoy Merida.
And FWIW, I much prefer Playa del Carmen to Tulum on mainland to Cozumel. Easy ferry ride. If staying in playa, cozumel is worth a day trip with a half day being snorkeling, buy cozumel is a lot like cancun in all the wrong ways…

All of the Yucatan was fairly safe up until covid if you stayed out of the drug scene, but nowadays I much prefer Belize. It’s safe and fairly clean outside of Belize City, speak English, and has cultural and food flavors of most of the Carribean in one place, and you can drive to most of the areas of the country within 3 or 4 hours of the airport with no more car jacking concerns than you get in transitional areas of American big cities. Also feel like much less of a “target” for scams or more than I do anywhere in Mexico as a gringo.
Also fairly easy border crossings into Yucatan Mexico and Northern Guatemala if you must from Belize…
