        4. i just spent 6 hours string trimming the yard, 9 hole golf course, shooting range, horseshoe pits, creek, and pond area.. still have another several hours to go to finish up the woods to the west of the house. awesome workout- non-stop upper body with the trimmer and legs legs legs up and down hills and ravines. feeling good for a 62 y.o. senior

  3. came up with another way to clear rooms. back when they still had the M-202 flame rocket or whatever
    they called it. they where 66mm in size. same as a LAW rocket. anyway. when helping teach CIC
    in West Berlin back then. I put a LAW heat round in the M202. like Heat, flame, then heat again and flame. I thought it was a neat way to do it. clearing the room so to speak. anyway, TOP liked the idea.
    the BRASS did not. not sure why. as making a hole with a LAW rocket and then shooting the flame round in after it was the same thing ? we did a fair bit of training with the Brits back then.
    they called it FISH, fighting in someone house. and seeing how they just got back from the “shit” as they called it. wished they could just blow up the damn house as they always lost people going in.
    I still think IF you have to go in, make your own damn doorway- blow a hole and go thru it.

  5. Couldn’t get into Red Dead Redemption. Kinda digging that new Robocop expansion, tho…Peter Weller even does the voicework for Robo.

One of my laugh out loud moments was that I had a case (litigation) that I was working on that had me reading FMs on MOUT, on the section for clearing buildings the preferred method for the initial breach was a main tank round beside the front door. It explained that this was preferred for giving a clear space to enter, while something like, “the resistance of any enemy forces remaining in the first room will be diminished.” It would sure as hell ruin my day.

That ‘opening up the building for dynamic entry while lowering the resistance of any enemy forces in said building’ is why the Nazis made silly stupid things like the Sturmtiger, which had a big fucking rocket round as a way to say, politely, in German, “Fuck you, fuck your building, fuck your buddies in the other buildings, fuck all y’all.”

    2. I think there was a unit in WW2 that did urban ops with a howitzer. They “borrowed” it, broke the safety stops so they could lay the barrel completely horizontal, and proceeded to clear houses with it. Wish I could remember where I read about it.

      1. battle of Aachen. it was the Russians that first used anti tank guns in the “Grad” for house clearing
        they used 47mm one I think it was. one gun per team. 2 flamethrowers though.
        use the big gun to make a hole, toss in some hand grenades . spray with machine fire as you go it.
        must have worked very well for them as they did it again in attacking Berlin.

  8. during the battle of Aachen in WW2. our GIs used 155 cannons in the city as a way to clear houses
    of Germans. they called it a terror weapon and to be banned. our side said it was great to watch !
    and it worked really well too.

  9. Have you heard of Valheim? It’s basically Viking Minecraft. Gorgeous worlds, and the crafting mechanics/physics are great.

    It’s got a multiplayer coop mode, but I just turn on God/Dev mode and build awesome things (without the grind of finding resources) Very cathartic.
