Greetings and Salutations!
Still tired. Worn out to be perfectly honest. People’s Glorious Tractor Factory as of late has been an exceptionally hard grind. Your favorite blogger (moi) has been busier than a one legged man in an ass kicking contest as of late.
I mean it’s been paying off, as the quarterly bonuses were announced the other day, and I was ‘on the list’ so I got a nice minor ‘bump’ in the pay bucket, which these days is ALWAYS a most welcome thing. $300 isn’t a lot but hey… that’s this months groceries if I play it right with going and utilizing the “BOGOs” at Publix and some of the other sales out there.
That or another gun.
Of course that would get me deeply in the soup w/Gretchen.
Decisions, decisions.
Now, ANOTHER reason I’m tired is I’m sort of bent out and pissed off as to how some of my projects have been going. One of them being the 1911 Hydrodip Project. I showed the one pic before of the pre-dip pre that was going on:

I had stripped it down completely , and had gotten some bamboo rods to secure the frame and slide for the actual dip process.
Over the past few nights, and forgive me but I forgot to take pictures, but I finally completed the sanding, stripping and taping of the two main parts. I then used the ‘etching base coat’ to paint over everything in preparation for the dip itself:

It took about 3 days to get everything taped up properly. I’ll be honest, that was a bitch. LOTS of scalpel work to get all of it done ‘right’.
Now in this case (last night) I actually DID remember to take some pictures. I prepped the dipping pan:

And made sure the water was at 90 degrees which is the required temp to do a proper hydro-dip, hence why it’s on the stove to keep the heat up while I monkey-fucked with getting the film in place:

Everything seemed to be going along spiffily.
I laid the film down perfectly and I used juuuuust the right amount of activator… Then, I dipped the slide… Everything looked good until I pulled it out…
Fuck.
Not sure what went wrong, but this is what I came out with:

Not exactly the best views. I mean it WAS past midnight when I took those pix, so hey…
Today I got better shots, and I’m hoping some of you Wile E. Coyote Motherfuckers (Super-Geniuses) in the audience can offer some insight, as all I have are YouTube Vids to tell me what’s happening, and in this case? None of them offer up any explanation for the weirdness that happened in my particular instance.
Better pics:

As you can see, parts/areas of it, especially in the middle look like it came out perfectly, and then on the ends? Not so fucking mucho.
Any clue gang?
Anyone?
Anyone?
The Hawley-Smoot Tariff Act?
(huh… how topical LOL)
So yeah, pipe up in the comments.
I’m going to try the frame tonight, and -try- to replicate the same, except maybe I’ll let the activator sit a bit longer? I’m thinking that maybe I didn’t let it activate long enough, which would account for some areas being good and others being not-so-good.
The nice thing is an overnight bath in pure acetone should remove all the crap and get me back to bare metal. And even then, I got steel wire brushes to deal with what doesn’t want to come off.
Like I said, it’s a learning curve here.
So your ideas and thoughts?

I tried hydodipping a guitar 2 or 3 times a few years ago and fucked it up every time. Never could get the hang of it, so I cheated to get a similar effect:
Poured 3 colors of small pools on the guitar and lightly covered it with painters plastic, then went over it with a dough roller. The effect came out great, but I had to put a pretty thick coat of clearcoat on the top and polish it smooth with some of the uneven (non-mirror flat) dried paint job.
Good enough for me…I’ll probably never be on a stage again, so who gives a fuck.
My first guess is needed a final degreasing…
My SECOND guess is micro bubbles on the metal, or trapped under the film. This seems more likely.
Another Stag: That’s what I was thinking. Air bubbles. Maybe the whole set-up needs to be done under vacuum. Think sous-vide, but for a gun, rather than a filet mignon. I have no experience whatsoever with this process, but, being a genius and all, it makes sense to me.

Just spit-balling but, Does the part to be dipped need to be at similar temperature?
And do you have any fans/AC blowing on the parts when removing them?
Seems to be a correlation between dip time, angle of removal and evaporation.
Good luck
Run with it, you’ll start a new trend.
Lizard camo!
I know precisely nuthin about this process but that looks like uneven heating. The center of your dip tank is warmer than the ends, probably because the stove element is under the middle. Maybe try a flat griddle type plate that heats the whole lower surface.
The thickest portions of the slide had the worst adhesion. I would try preheating the parts, and maybe some extra degreasing. Might have been more oil soaked into the thicker portions of slide
A “HOLY” RABBI BRAGS THAT ALL NON-JEWS ARE ABOUT TO BE “ANNIHILATED” :
This “holy” rabbi brags that the Talmudic decree whereby the Jews must genocide all Christians, and indeed all non-Jews, is soon about to come true. He boasts that all the Goyim “Livestock” are about to be “annihilated”:

Reader–“This “holy” rabbi also boasts that the Jews are achieving their goal of what he explicitly calls cultural genocide.

In WW3, the CHABAD wants to genocide 6 billion Goyim “Livestock”, including most Christians. In the following clip, the “holy” CHABAD rabbi Yosef Mizrachi, left, openly calls for the genocide of 6 billion Goyim “Livestock” in the coming years because the Talmud tracts added in the 1100s by the “holy” rabbi Maimonides refer to these Goyim “Livestock” as “idol worshipers”: https://old.bitchute.com/video/bPPxENsNPSVj/.
Needless to say, this does not qualify as “hate speech” which only pertains to disagreeing with a Jew. Furthermore, it cannot be construed as “Anti-Arabic” (Anti-Semitic) given that this “holy” rabbi is himself Jewish.”
Keep after it!
That’s just a thing’s gonna look great when you get it right.
Give this guy a try.

Are you using tap water? Id so, perhaps using distilled water would help, it will not have any minerals, chlorine, etc
Contaminants are what I’m thinking also,
in the pan or in the water…
Please forgive in advance what appears to be an exercise in contrarianism. This is not intended to be so. I have rattlecanned several weapons, from shotguns to rifles to AR’s to handguns and several 1911’s. I have never hydrodipped anything, so I know almost nothing about the procedure, how much time it takes or the cost.
I believe rattlecanning produces more than acceptable results, although blue’d weapons seem to shed spray paint more quickly than other finishes especially under regular holster wear.
Its super easy, requires almost no experience nor expertise. Here is an article I did for Askaprepper.com years ago that includes procedures and results (the AR in the pics is NOT mine, all the other weapons and gear is mine). I did not accept payment for the article, and so I get no benefit with “extra clicks” so I’m not attempting to engage in shameless self promotion. https://www.askaprepper.com/diy-rattle-can-camo-weapons-gear/ Hope this is even a little bit helpful.
Hey, nobody else will have that camo pattern… one of a kind. Almost a melding of woodland and desert style.
I know… craftsmanship, we all have to learn.
BCE, I have a simple (probably to you) gunsmithing question on the 1911. I’ll save until you’re less stressed.
