Minor Interruption for Tonight

Greetings and Salutations!
Part the Second of the mission debrief is put on hold for tonight as I have to go to the E.R. It was pointed out to me by a fren who saw my picture(s) and told me I got some serious Edema going on and since my last Liver Panel (4 weeks ago) was completely normal… something isn’t right…

In fact the Docs at the VA said it was the best one I had done in like a year or three… like EVERYTHING either perfect or even low. So I don’t -think- it’s the booze… Also I don’t have ANY symptoms that are associated with that outside of MASSIVE edema/water retention…

Another point is my weight went from 320 to about 360 over the past 2-2.5 weeks. In fact I went from 357 last night to 360 overnight and yes, I did recalibrate the scale BOTH times as I had trouble with ALL the readouts.

That’s….concerning…

I mean I DO love me some beer and pizza but that’s a stretch, even for my garbage gut….

And when earlier Doc Samizdat called me just to yakk it up, when I told/asked him, he told me to make sure I go tonight

So I’ll update later

  1. My guess would be water retention. Might be time to cut back on your Na intake. Hope it turns out to be that simple.

  2. if you want to live to see 60 you have to start taking charge of your health. sell the burb place and head into the woods somewhere. its good for health and soul.

  3. Edema is usually either kidneys or heart (ask me how I know, thanks Dr Fauci you mother ******).

Before they figured out what was wrong with me (ticker damaged by Covid), my weight ballooned and I was swollen as Hell. After they figured it out and put me on the right meds especially Lasix which is a heavy duty diuretic, I lost 60 pounds of water weight in 10 days !!

BCE, make sure a cardiologist checks you out. If your kidney panel from blood and urine draw is OK, it most likely is something is up with the ticker. The good thing is there are drugs now that can help a lot without having to have surgery.

    Good luck brother !!

    1. My word, 60 lbs of water weight? That seems almost inconceivable. Glad you got it worked out, though.

      1. You are so right, it took 12 months screwing around with doctors to figure out what was wrong with me.
Finally my primary doctor said to Hell with this and admitted me to the hospital as I was getting really bad.
That hospital then sent me to a bigger hospital with a top cardiac unit.
An old senior cardiologist who knew his stuff correctly diagnosed me in 15 minutes.

The thing with our medical system is the key is to get correctly diagnosed. Once that happens, they know exactly how to treat you.

I know losing 60 pounds sounds incredible but believe me, I was so swollen I could barely walk or get into a car. It was horrible and if I sent you a picture of my legs you wouldn’t believe it.
It was a very rough time for me and I thought I might have a date with the Grim Reaper before they got my meds and treatment right.

  4. Having a good liver panel, blood test, EKG, etc. doesn’t tell the whole story. Good move going straight to the ER. Hope it’s an easy fix, like less salt.

  5. Please take care of yourself.
I have appreciated your view points on many things over the past few years. I think your blog is necessary, and fills gaps that are not presented elsewhere.

God speed good health to you.

  6. Sorry to hear that bro. I’m having lab fun too right now, liver doctor got all freaky after a lab that my kidney doc said was great. Another lab a week later, now he’s freeking about potassium being slightly above normal. Got another lab in two days. Le sigh.

You got to watch your weight better, have fun but damn, that’s a shitload of fast gain. Good chance it’s messing with you. I’m fortunate, my weight stays stable no matter how much I do or don’t eat.

And a big thank you to our ER nurses, I finally tried a new dressing from MEDLOT. Vastly superior in every way over the Aspira garbage, including price. I’ve replaced their whole dressing kit now, new gauze pads, etc. Thanks, Semper and Jimmy.

Back to packing for the move, had to rest a few so checked up here.

    Hasta lluego

  7. The Human body can do very weird things but that weight gain is alarming. FYI over age 40 metabolism slows. It varies among individuals, of course. I would get your heart checked out ASAP. Don’t fool around. And do cut down on the pizza/beer diet.

  8. “Ah, wow, man.” – Chong. That ain’t right. Thoughts and prayers, yada, yada, yada, and all that.

  9. Dude you really need to consider a month or so going pure Atkins. Easiest best diet to quickly lose that weight, meat cheese eggs. No carbs period like maybe 10-20 grams per day max. You’re never hungry you may crave carbs a bit but easy to ignore. All that worry about cholesterol is total bullshit, Im 74 cholesterol is always around 413 ( the docs all shriek statins statins I scream back FUCK YOU ) my blood pressure is 130/80 steady as a rock, no issues.
my daily diet is mostly eggs and meat, but I do eat some mostly non-sugar carbs but I really dont watch my diet closely or anything.
Get well my man priorty ONE

  10. Tiny, you fuggin oaf! You’ve packed up again!!! Happens to me all the time! All you need is a Metamucil highball and hour in the outhouse with a good book!
    😊👍

At least – that’s what we all hope it is. You’re probly just coming up on that age where the “check engine light” starts turning on and lifestyle changes are often called for. Do what ya doctor says and keep yer fans poosted too. Were all in this together, as Red Green used to say.

And remember: a shit bigger than 15 lbs is a potential world record. Keep yer cell phone or camera handy, and a good fish scale close at hand.

  11. One useful thing ‘AI’ can do is tell if a new med is appropriate or not. Helping a friend with CKD I’ve found several new meds from various docs would be really harmful to kidneys. Checked with the kidney doc and yep ‘Do Not Let Them Take That!’. And the docs prescribing the harmful meds were aware of the CKD.

Hope you get well fast, Big Country.

  12. I’m not a Doctor nor do I play one on TV but it sounds like the ticker is acting up. There are germs and viruses that target the heart muscle that only show up as the body swelling. I’m sure that the latest labs are going to be 2-3 standard deviations from normal and in the vicinity of “you should be dead range.”
If you can send a short update that you are in fact not dead yet as I expect you will be admitted for observation. I suspect they will give you Lasix (a horse stimulant) for the edema. You will piss out a cubic foot of fluids (weighs about 64 lbs and it will be monitored.) Kidneys will be looked at first but do see a cardiologist for heart damage or something called a flabby heart. EKG’s will show effed up rythmns and point to the almost root issue. Did you ever get a copy of an EKG trace so the cardiologist has something to compare to? (To all who read this, do get a copy to bring to the ER when you have that double grabber, it will really help the heart doc’s to not kill you by accident.)

After all this, please take care of your self as some of us get to live a Walter Mitty existence through your exploits.

    1. “PS: How was the dinner with the Hottie?”
Probably not near as good as desert was.

I have nothing to add. Spin covered it pretty well and I concur with his statements. Give us a heads up when you can Billy.
