Greetings and Salutations!
Man, not a bad day at all, as it positively flew by, as did much of the week. Kind of stunning how quickly life passes by when it’s quiet and mellow. Not much to talk about on the home front. Like I said, it’s been quiet.
I did manage to resist the ‘siren’s call’ of a few really good deals that I found on Palmetto State… sometimes it’s too hard to resist, but in this case, I’m saving for a vacation. I want to go somewhere, quiet, mellow and relaxing. Maybe explore Panama this time around? I found out the pensioner’s visa is like only $1000 a month for necessary income, and that the cost of living in some places is like $600 a month ALL inclusive so to speak.
I’ve also been talking to my boys in Costa… there’s a place for me there too, and I also qualify for a retiree visa there with just my VA retirement as well… It’s tempting to say the least… My only issue with living as an Expat again is the majority of these countries are not ‘firearm friendly’ which puts a major crimp in my preferred lifestyle… although Mother Russia does allow people (after vetting) to have some firepower…
Maybe a cabin in Irkutsk?
Live on the edge quietly, with a Starlink upload and a library full of good books? Lord knows I have bins and bins and shelves of books… Get me a couple of Mosin Nagant rifles and just live quietly in the woods… unbothered and unremembered…
There’s a wee bit of poetic ideas in that isn’t there?
Have to see where things take me…
So that’s pretty much it for tonight. Been gaming again and enjoying the ‘break from reality’. I’ve also been working on a piece that I’m sure will get me banned from traveling to Joly Ole England… in that I’ve got a couple of ideas that’ll really upset the current powers that be… revolutionary ideas if you will… I’ll put it up when it’s done, both here and at the substack.
So More Later

Try the fried Guinee pig on a stick. They are actually quite tasty and one of the few street foods that are safe to eat.
The meme is 1000% correct. I have been in quite a few places with no questions or security checks, to include passenger terminals of airports post 9/11, because I look like I belong.
I used the clipboard trick when I was in the army. Just wander around and look busy. No one will bother you. A buddy of mine had a coil of rope he used for the same purpose.
a small tid bit of real history to soak up …

Excellent meme… Clipboard was key, but CVC overalls worked REALLY well with just the SGT stripes and no unit insignia 🙂 Or so I am told…
Speaking of “siren’s call”, I saw an ad on PSA for a Ruger 10/22 with hard case and optics, only $300.
I am SOOOOOO tempted. I may even succumb.
Pretty hard to go wrong with that deal!
I still have my 1966, ser. no. 43,xxx, 3rd year 10/22. It’s currently wearing about $900 worth of “accurate, high speed, low drag”. All the original furniture is safely stored, in case I can sell it, complete, for too much.
Learned the method in the meme from watching the Rockford Files on TV. Jim Rockford had it down pat. I’ve used it more than once myself.
Love the old 10/22s have several all 60s era with a 4 digit mid 65 being the earliest. Still looking for one of the 400+ made in 64.
Meant to say one with a 4 digit ser#
RE Clipboard: Read a story once where some WW2 allied POW escapees “measured their way out of Germany”. One was in charge, with the clipboard. The others had tape measures and when anyone approached them they would start measuring anything, lampposts, curbs, road widths. SGT Clipboard would studiously write down what they measured. They were left alone. I guess they were appealing to the German sense of order and propriety. Another story in the same book was a bloke who got civilian clothes and a wheelbarrow full of bricks and pushed that out of Germany and to safety. True? who knows?
Yeah, I haven’t heard of any countries with firearms freedoms as much as the USA. (I’m no expert on that though). Unless of course, countries that have war zones where anything goes.
Live in Russia? Nah, Russian propaganda is not much better than ours. Disagreeing with the central government over there doesn’t seem to be much appreciated to say the least.
Now (drumroll please) Putin’s bestie, Kim Jung Un, he appreciates dissenting opinions. And his sister?!
On the vacation, follow your heart BC. God knows you deserve one.
A tool pouch with lots of well worn tools and a hardhat make you almost invisible. If someone notices the lack of a badge, “The stupid thing fell off again” works with all but the most paranoid security people.
Shooter
And, yeah, good work with the Krain stats: makes sense.
Can’t even imagine how pissed off all those parents must be at Zel’s kidnapping their kids, getting them killed, then gaslighting mom and dad.
Being gaslit is a powerful motivator.
Vacation? … Good on ya. Get away a bit get head straight. As always I put out things to think on for long term. You have forgotten more about prep and survival than I will ever know. Having said that having 2ex’s and one that passed, the one tid bit that is a truism in every single case. Wait 6 months for life altering relocation at least. You don’t have to be in a hurry, no matter what it feels like and that time can/Will give you new opportunities you may not have thought about.
At your age and health, where you end up in 5 or 10 or more years I would consider where/how you will get what you want both from the VA and other sources to keep the carcass functioning. Getting older tends to change your priority’s for lots of reasons. You speak of family/friends/granbabies, never mind your blog family who would give you the shirt off their backs…… well mostly. What part of that support network you have built will be available or necessary, WHEN you need it where you end up.
Not preachin just saying, 6months + isn’t to long a time to use so you don’t have to do it twice to get where you want to be. The adventure going forward is far better when the direction is clear, instead of fiddle farting around with all the things that will for certain get in your way. You pick one rifle over another to refurbish for a reason. You know which you can make functional which will be beautiful, etc. Jumping before you know which direction is always A. expensive B. Unsatisfying, C. Unneccessary.
My advice is worth what you pay for it, but I’ll throw out that In south central AR. you will always have the three s’s a bit of good grub and a place to stash your gear overnite, you have my email should you get close on your adventure wherever it takes you.
Yeah the being in another A/O without access to a VA for your meds should be a consideration. As you get older you are going to hurt more. I have days where I can barely walk without a cane.
Although with the base facilities in a place like Panama you might be ok. Not sure how that works.
Dragonrodent is right though. No need to rush off half assed.
Wait till late 2026 after the referendum and relocate to the independent nation of Alberta. Given how unhappy the east will be, i suspect your skills to ve useful.
Panama is a little less nice after this …

“American serial killer William ‘Wild Bill’ Holbert and ex-wife jailed in Panama:
William Holbert is sentenced to 47 years in jail for murdering five people, after their bodies were found in his hostel’s grounds.”

So do keep in mind that not all is happy and peaceful in Panama.
There’s a nice mall in the center of Panama City that’s near some medical offices where all you need is money to get whatever you want done, no questions asked, no records provided to medical authorities back in your home country. Some of those were in the same building as the Panama Papers crap a while back.
The elites never had to touch the streets: with helipads at the mall and on most of the buildings where these offices are, the only time they’re actually on the ground is at the airport.
Despite that, you can actually find some affordable health care around there, but you really do need to ask about prices.
Costa Rica used to be a place to go get dental work done, BTW, especially in the San JosĂ© suburb of EscazĂş, but prices went way up and it’s not nearly as good as going to Mexico now.
But if you want to get that dealt with as well, you can check it out.
For what it’s worth, EscazĂş is Too Fucking American for me to put up with when my mindset is on being outside the United States rather than being in some sort of tourist pseudo-exclave of it.
Should you decide to visit, you’ll see what that means.
Nowhere in central America is safe. And see Michael Yon’s notes Re: panama…
I am in TX and would only move to TN, FL, or WY for permanent residency. Why? No state income tax, which reflects broader freedoms and political realities. TX is prob on borrowed time, and maybe same for FL.
If you’re young and healthy, there may be some expat locales to consider, but as you get older you realize that’s really only a prudent choice if independently wealthy and a home base in the states with a travel budget and shtf travel contingencies. Ymmv.
