A Short Heads Up on a Sale

Greetings and Salutations!
Not much going on here at Ye Olde Casa.
Work, eat/drink/sleep mode.
Oh.. and clean up the dog poo that Chili seems to enjoy bedeviling me with. She knows ‘out’ but is so distracted 90% of the time that she doesn’t do her business, and I end up playing ‘clean the poo’ off the floor.

At least she’s consistent in pooping where she started off her pad-training when she was a wee pupper. She’s been with us almost a year now! Time flies!

Gretchen is still oot and aboot
Getting some down time.
Sapper is out on walkaboot as well, leaving me to take care of the biddness of the Casa on my own. It’s really quiet around here w/out the two of them. The only thing I’ve been doing is my working on the guns when I’m not ‘chasing widgets’ for People’s Glorious Tractor Factory. I need to get out more and do -something- I swear.

HOWEVER
I do have one thing to share. Now as much as Reddit is a cesspool of mostly mentally ill Blue-Haired psychopaths, there ARE the occasional group(s) that I read, one being the “MRE” Board. It’s where I get leads on sales and obscure rations that I like to sample ‘cos who doesn’t like eating foreign DotMil field rations?

Well…
Heads up for anyone interested:

Link HERE
…and yeah, using that link gives me a ‘taste’ so to speak…

According to some of the poasters there, the DLA had a MASSIVE over-purchase of MREs and dumped over 7500 PALLETS of MREs on the open market, essentially crashing the price. A pallet of MREs from my understanding is 48 cases to MREs to a pallet, so thats a Shit-Ton of MREs out there.

For now.

I was late into the game as some of the sellers out there were selling them originally at $39.99 a case. The check dates are all within 2022-2025 supposedly. Thing is, I’ve had MREs that’re WAY past the check date, and the check date is just that… the check date not the expiration date.

And $46 a case?
FREE SHIPPING!?!
Yes fucking please, w/bells on.
I ordered 4 as that’s all the budget can afford this pay period. If there’s room for more later, I’ll go back and get more as well… that price is astonishingly good.
And I do like eating me some MREs

So that’s the hot tip for tonight.
More Later

  1. Thanks for the link. I was looking for a few of these for our “get home” bags. I usually rotate them out yearly because of the summer heat. Florida weather is hell on a car and everything in it.

  2. Thanks for the heads up. I got six. Hopefully you get a big “taste” of that.

  3. How late is ‘way past’ the expiration date? I have I think 4 cases that are perhaps 10 years past the expiration date. I hven’t dumped them because I figure at least the heaters and perhaps condiments might still be good, but don’t want to end up with a leaky, stinking box.

    1. I’ve eaten MREs 15 years past the expiration date.
Never had a problem outside of the cheese might go rancid if it was stored at hi-temps.
      Otherwise?
      Chow down!

      1. I’ve had 10 year fast do Canadian ones and US ones. I’ve occasionally found ones that were stale or off but still edible, the squeeze jalapeno cheese spread is usually 1st thing to go.

  4. US Meals doesn’t produce on spec. The question is who placed an order for 7500+ pallets in 2022ish and then backed out? What did they put the order in for and what changed?

    1. Could be someone thought they were ordering 7,500 MREs and screwed up interpreting the quantity descriptions.
I remember ordering jewelers saw blades fifteen years ago – I’ll never have to order another one.

    2. Ukrainian nationals were buying a MREs and sending them home to kit relatives at the front according to my local Army Surplus guy who couldn’t get them any more. They also were buying up cold weather gear. Sounds like someone bought a bunch of MREs to sell to the Ukies but with the war lost or the relatives dead, the market isn’t there anymore.

All that money Joe was sending over there rarely got to the troops. There are some nice Oligarch mansions in Miami and London though.

A raccoon got into my stash. I had MRE wrappers and noodle soup cartons scattered all over the basement. I store everything in plastic bins now.

      1. Good thing plastic is pest-proof. Like my steel garage and the imaginary squirrel that hold nightly raves in there.

  5. Thanks for the heads up BCE. I ordered 4 cases U.S. Meals Ready to Eat (Variety Pack of 12) – (A or B Case Selected at Random) using your link:
    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08N1NDDRS?&linkCode=sl1&tag=theintrepidre-20&linkId=108e5393bcd1e7f8060b254ccd2110c5&language=en_US&ref_=as_li_ss_tl

    12 MREs/case X 48 Cases/Pallet X 7500 Pallets = 4,320,000 MREs
As to why, maybe they were thinking they were going to go to war with Russia and China at the same time and you don’t want to run out of food in a prolonged conflict but now with the new administration it doesn’t seem likely.

MREs seem to be good forever (for our remaining lifetimes anyway) but you do need to check for pinhole leaks due to possible rough handling. The bag will balloon up if it’s bad.
I open up the boxes and put the individual MREs in a Sterilite 66 Quart Clear Plastic Bin with Latch Lid from WalMart and store them in my basement.

  6. Appreciate you sharing the link with everybody, and considering how much a case of MREs was selling for just a few years ago, $45.48 is a very good price, and it’s always best to diversify one’s emergency supplies too.

  7. I’ve never had an MRE meal. After eating C Rations all winter for 3 years, I swore I’d never eat army food again.

  8. I’ve got a case stored with the other ‘stuff’. But its a bit old. I did order two off your link. (Thanks) Hope they ship better that the Asolo hikers ordered from Amazon. Three weeks and they still haven’t arrived!

  9. Damn, BCE…great deal! I was about to jump on it, hit the link, and–Amazon.
I don’t do business with Amazon, so I can’t avail myself of the deal, but others can. Good on ya for posting it, and thanks for sharing it, even if I can’t get them. It’s a mighty White thing for you to do, helping brothers out.
