Greetings and Salutations!
Well, first off, my great appreciation and thanks to all of y’all who come by here to hear my whining and bitching. This’s my one refuge I have where I can do a mind-dump.
I’m thankful for so many things this year.
One is that despite the recent news, Gretchen survived and thrived after the first round of Cancer, (cursed be it’s name).
Two is that both grands are thriving in their respective ages and areas. I’m also happy that BabyDaddy seems to have finally gotten his head out of his 4th point of contact.
Three is I’m thankful for Sapper still having my back. Much appreciated man.
Four are the few friends I still have despite my obnoxious and rather toxic personality. I’m trying to improve, but being an utter bastard is sort of in the DNA. This includes a LOT of my fellow bloggers, like Wirecutter, Mike at Cold Fury and the Tactical Hermit, to name just a few… CA as well for his efforts especially in keeping the signal alive.
And lastly I’m thankful for the People’s Glorious Tractor Factory as I’ve now seen up close and personal how utterly shitty the job market is, and especially thankful for the Operations Commissar who at the time was IT Commissar before his promotion who got me in to begin with.
I mean this is ostensibly what this particular holiday is about.
Giving thanks to the Big Guy in The Sky, be it whatever name you prefer to label him. And yeah, I’m pretty sure its a male deity. Call me a sexist. This is where we’re luck enough to give Thanks to Him for the Blessing of us living here, and for all the bounty and wealth of friends and family we have. That and turkey with dressing.
So, may you ALL have a fantastic day, and I’ll be catching up tomorrow as I’ve been s-l-o-w-l-y starting work on the Enfield. I have her completely stripped down to pieces-parts, and have started the in-depth inspection and stripping of the finish. So far it looks great.

Happy Thanksgiving Dude. Glad to hear the wheel of mojo is finally spinning in your direction
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours as well and hope everything turns out ok for you…
Just to let you know that I have been reading your blog for the past several years, and I enjoy your warped sense of humor, similar to mine. Our dark humor is one of the ways that we cope with all of the crap that comes our way.
I am thankful that all is well with your family for the present. Even if only temporary, it is nice to be able to take a deep breath.
I am almost 80 years old and have had many, many major ups and downs, with family, finances, health, deaths and work. I have realized that it is all part of life. Hang in there brother, being tough and resilient is a mark of a good man.
My best wishes to you and the entire family.
Molon Labe
A happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, BC. May the day be relaxed, uneventful, and marked by a good meal enjoyed at home with those who matter.
In something of a miracle, my entire immediwte family (Mom, siblings and their spouses, kids, etc.) will all be together in the same place for the occasion. It’s gonna be a real old school family holiday, which happens far too infrequently these days, when some usually end up spending the day with their spouse’s extended family.
So, I’m thankful it worked out that way this year. i lament the loss of the huge get togethers we had when I was a kid, so many are gone now (grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins who’ve moved away etc.). This will be a throwback to the better times of my youth, and not likely to be often repeated going forward, so I’ll savor it today.
Amen to this – I was thinking about how fragmented we’ve become as a society, and it’s a reflection of how fragmented we’ve become as families. The large get togethers are missed – and must needs be cherished when they do occur. And remember, families aren’t just who your direct ancestors birthed – it’s those that you’ve accepted in as well. And truth be told, some ‘brothers of other mothers’ are better than those that are of ‘blood’ relation. Of course, YMMV.
I sincerely hope that you had a good Thanksgiving, even if it was just in having the shit-show subside enough that you could relax a bit, and as you noted in today’s opening – a chance to feel gratitude for the good that you do have in your life.
Also – a belated Happy Birthday, BCE – and being 10yrs farther down the road that you, I can confirm that you’re hitting the age where the warranty apparently runs out and parts begin to fail. Of course, some of us had faulty parts to begin with, so…. 😉
Yes, it’s good to have plenty to be thankful for. Hope the DC/in laws situation turns out positive. You KNOW you need to follow up with a Situation Report. Also, don’t slack on yer TPS reports.
Have a great day!
Thank you and a very Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours BigCountryExPat and to your family and friends and readers. Our son has come back to us and came in for a visit, we made some things and went to a friend’s place and celebrated with 4 other families.
We are indeed blessed.

BCE:
The same as all the above said. Have a good day.

Happy day of turkyism to all. Hey BC, I sent you an email.
Excellent perspective my brother.
I needed that more than you know right now.
Happy Thanksgiving my brother Rakkasan
snowing like mad up here. i plowed all day and needs it again in the morning. trees snapping all around…… power went out more than a dozen times today………….. just fuck
pulled my sled out yesterday, ran it, got stuck in a damn snow covered-water filled ditch, recovered and then parked it- too busy plowing…………plowing……………….plowing…………………………………………..
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. Spent my day with the wife watching the Macy’s parade and, like you, cooking a nice turkey dinner. With the country, and world devolving into a Great Whirlpool Of Shit, it’s good to focus on gratitude for the good things in our lives. Restoring an old rifle sounds like a nice, relaxing project.
Happy Thanksgiving BCE.
In times of trouble it is good to focus on the positive.
Whatever people’s spiritual beliefs, I believe first and foremost one of the reasons we are on Earth is to learn and grow.
A lot of people can only learn lessons the hard way. Some of what is going on with DC are lessons she is supposed to learn as are Wifey and her parents.
Are they going to get bit in the ass ? Most likely but maybe then they will start LISTENING to you !
Good luck and I hope you have a good holiday.
Happy thanksgiving 🦃
May your turkey be plump, may your stuffing be moist and may your pies be plentiful.
Happy Belated Thanksgiving BCE! I’m a relatively new reader to your blog and enjoy your posts immensely, even when I don’t always agree with your particular point of view. Though I hate the word “diversity” I DO enjoy your diversity of thought 😉 Don’t ever change!
May your turkey day be good and good luck on the enfield. Is it one of the odd calibers or something you might find at any old bait shop?
Hope the Thanksgiving Holiday / weekend was good for everyone. We are doing an Orphans’ Thanksgiving tomorrow (Saturday) for a dozen friends, who either have no family nearby, or who have had quite enough of family, thank you.
It works for us. 🙂
BCE: How much could I reasonably pay you to research my dads’ Army / Air Force record / history?
Army Air Corp, B-17 pilot, on duty injury, (crashed near DC) , late WWII, then Det. of Patients, medically retired as Captain 1947?
Thanks, John in Indy

The guy has some good ones to put the perspective back to 5×5 status.
Glad to read things have centered a bit.
All the best.
Happy belated thankgiving BC, just wanted to say that im thankful for you and the blog here, always nice to know there are like minded souls around
Grateful for many things.
There are some matters we all need to attend to in our House:
Invaders and traitors, many of whom are communists.
The communists are not going to leave us alone.
BCE, your are sick humored, twisted and gruff person! Just my kind of guy.
I really would love to buy you numerous adult beverages while we crack sick jokes about ghastly situations.
Glad your T-Day went well! We all need to pause and appreciate the blessings we have and use them as a buffer against the near constant shit storm. If we couldn’t laugh we’d all go crazy.
Per the job market….
I don’t get it. I work in the trades. Every shop and every factory is absolutely desperate to hire anybody that can turn a wrench or wire a switch. We’ve hired ex cons and all sorts of miscreants in the last year or two.
Everybody I talk to in these fields in my area say the same thing.
BC, been another long stretch now with no posted updates. I hope that doesn’t portend more bad news, and it’d be reassuring if you’d popped up here and let us thought criminals know what’s going on.
